Terry's 3M's
Report cards came out yesterday. I am very pleased that my son made the A/B Honor Roll this semester. The other kids did okay.
Swan Song fluctuates: a struggle to get through...but, it does have little sections that hold my interest for a few pages. My current feeling about the book is that I wanted to read it for so long and it was a Christmas present... so, by golly, I am going to finish it. I've managed to read over a hundred and seventy-five pages since my last entry. But, it's a long book. 996 pages in paperback. So, I still have over 400 pages to go.
I taped an episode of Star Trek: TNG yesterday. It was one I hadn't seen before. Since TNG comes on at 5PM and I am usually busy with kids and dinner, I just turn on the tape and let it tape the commercials as well. This episode was apparently the first one done about Trills. Since I find the Trill culture as portrayed on DS9 fascinating, it was quite a shock to see that on TNG, Trills had fleur-de-lis shaped ridges on their foreheads and that the symbiant was the predominant life force of the Trill. There were so many differences. I find both concepts fascinating. The consciousness of the symbiant on TNG leaned more towards immortality than the one on DS9 where the symbiant is more a holder of the memories of the previous hosts rather than the predominant being. As far as we know, humans are the only species on earth that is sentient enough to consider life after death and to long for immortality. It is amazing how many different ways the creative mind can think of as ways that immortality might take shape. I can only trust in Jesus and hope that heaven isn't quite as dull as I imagine it. While I do believe that the Lord ought to be worshipped and Jesus should be thanked for saving us from our sins, the thought of spending an eternity in heaven singing thank yous and hosannas sounds boring. I'd rather believe that I will get to explore different talents and learn new things. That there will be a purpose to everlasting life. Maybe even exploring other planets and trying not to be seen as an ET on planets that we know nothing about now. To those who would say that earth is the only planet on which there are sentient beings, I say: Your opinion of our Creator is awfully small. Why credit your Lord with being omnipotent... and then limit Him? So much to learn...and so little time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
