Koser, Boroughf (Boroff), Rickle(el)
The following information was gathered from information in Ancestry.com written by Verda Richards, some from our cousin Greg Rickle, and some from our own family records which were written by my sister, Sandra. I still have questions on some of the history, but for the most part feel very comfortable with what is here. I will try to add in some pictures and other histories as I work through this new page.
Leonard Koser (born approx. 1603 Germany) married at unknown date to
Elizabeth (unknown) Elizabeth died Feb. 28, 1669/70. Leonard died
June 9, 1671. Their deaths and burials seem to have taken place in
Asperglen, Wurttemburg, Germany. The records are with the St. Mauritius
Evangelical Luthern Church. Ancestry.com gives a great deal of
history on all the family lines. Leonard and Elizabeth are shown to have
4 known children. It appears we may have descended from their
son, Viet Koser.
This son, Viet Koser was born about 1640 also in Asperglen, Wurttemburg,
Germany and died there around January 6, 1734/35. He married Margaretha
Miller/Muller, who was born about 1643. Their marriage was about February
4th, 1671/72 in Bretzemacler, Germany. Margaretha's family seems to have come
from there and Ancestry notes on them are very interesting. Five known children
are listed in Viet & Margaretha's family line. If we follow his family down,
we descended from their sons, Johan Jacob Koser.
Johan Jacob Koser was born March 25th, 1683 and died on February 12, 1759
the family still being in Asperglen Wurttemburg, Germany. He married Elizabeth
Buhner who was born August 6th, 1681 in Steineberg, Germany. They married on
May 5th, 1705 in Asperglen. I only saw 3 children listed in their family.
Still coming down the line we descended from their sons, Hans Georg Koser.
Hans Georg Koser was born on May 14, 1708 in Asperglen, Wurttemburg, Germany.
He died in 1773 in Greenwich Twp., Berks Co., PA. His occupations were shown
as Farmer, Vinedresser, Miller. He married Anna Barbara Swartz on August 24th,
1734 in Asperglen, Wurttenburg, Germany. It looks like her first marriage was to
Melchior Krautter a citizen & winedresser at Krehwinkel. After his death he was
also buried there. I am uncertain if I am reading this correctly, but looks like
they had 2 children. Hans Georg Koser and Anna Barbara Swartz were married on
August 24th, 1734. They immigrated to Pennsylvania on the ship "Patience" arrivng
there on September 19th, 1749. He was one of the founding fathers for the Grimville
Zion Union Church and many Koser's are buried in the churchyard. I see six
children born to their union and we descended from one of their sons, another
Johan Jacob Koser.
This John Jacob Koser was born while the family was still in Krehwinkel, Germany.
He was born on July 11th, 1743. He married Anna Margaretha Kindt who was born
on September 28th, 1755. I lost track of their paper, so unsure of their marriage
date and their number of children. I do know from here we descended from their
daughter, Reginah Leah Koser and from her marriage we will change to her husband's
last name of Boroughf.
Reginah (?) Leah Koser was born on April 28th, 1778 in Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., PA.
She died on May 25th, 1866 in Portage Twp., St Joseph, Indiana. Reginah married
Frederick Boroughf who was born on October 15th, 1770 in Jackson Twp, Lebonan, PA.
Frederick died on January 29th, 1875 at the age of 104 years old. He was the oldest
veteran surviving the War of 1812 at the time of the reunion July 4th, 1873. Frederick's link provides his obituary which tells about the picture in the other link shown as John Boroff.
There is a list of 13 children shown from this marriage. There is a wonderful
story about Frederick written in his obituary that is in Ancestry.com and there
is a picture that is supposed to be of him with other veterans of the war of
1812 at another site which I will link here. It will bring you to the main
page of the site and you must use the search in the upper right hand corner and
enter Boroff as his name is shown as
John Boroff in there. I am still learning
about this line, so can not answer the question why the different names. Frederick
and Reginah's daughter, Sarah Boroughf, is our next link and change in family name
from Boroughf to Rickle.
Sarah Boroughf was born in 1812 in Virginia. She died in 1893 in Kalamo, Eaton
Co., Michigan. She married Johannes G. Rickle who was born on July 18, 1789
in Lancaster Co., PA. Sarah & Johannes married on January 7th, 1830 in Jackson
Twp., Sandusky Co., Ohio. Their papers show they had at least 9 known children.
We descended from their son, John Rickle.
John Rickle was born in December 1835 in Congress Twp., Wayne Co., Ohio. He married
Eliza Jane Boor who connects us with another long line of family here and in MyFamily.com
under "Related Families". They are in Sandusky, Ohio. Our cousin Stepanie Evey connects us with their daughter Sara Evelyn Rickle Edmonds family. She has her own John Rickle web pages that you can see here and at last I at least have been
able to put together this page. We descended from John & Eliza's son, Sam Rickel. Sam is the one who changed the ending of the name from le to el.
Sam Rickel was born on April 26th, 1863 in Ohio (?). He died on March 9th, 1934
Sam married Ada Katherine (Kate) Burkert on March 22nd, 1888 in Nashville, MI.
Kate was born on April 28th, 1870 in Doylestown, Wayne Co., Ohio and she died on
July 4th, 1932 in St. Joseph Twp., Berrien Co., Michigan. Sam & Kate had two Children
Clifford D. Rickel and Ulah Belle Rickel, our grandmother.
