Putting First Things First
I am going to age myself in this next statement. I can remember Watergate! And what do I remember most about Watergate? Was it Nixon resigning? No. Was it the cover up? No. What I remember most about Watergate was a statement my pastor made in a sermon. He said, "God is more interested in what is happening in heaven than He is in what is happening in Washington D.C."
His words and God's message haunted me this last week as I saw myself and many others engulfed in the sea of Sick Willies Sex Scandal. Now do not misunderstand me, I do think that every citizen of this great country, the United States, should be involved in the process of governing our land - But - It should not be the first priority of our life. What is happening in heaven, our relationship with God and sharing with those who do not know His salvation should be the primary focus of our minds, hearts, bodies and souls.
I have made a conscience decision, that I hope you will join me in, of putting what is really important first. There are a lot of hurting and sin sick people out there and they are not all located in D.C. Some are right next door. Some are reading this simple message. And! They and/or you are important.
Take a look at all the hurt, shame, confusion, lying, and destruction that sin has brought to our President, his family, his lover(s) (?), his friends, our land, and especially our children. That is the norm for sin! The end result of sin - all sin is destruction and even death. Left to ourselves, we attempt to cover sin up or try to work out our own solution to it, and the end result is always the same - More sin! Sin is like a black hole. It keeps sucking everything into deeper and deeper darkness. No matter how strong or important you are, it will always crush you.
There is only one cure for sin! That cure is not found in a bottle, nor can it be found in a "Spin Doctor." The only one that can truly cure sin is the Great Physician - the Good Shepherd - Jesus Christ.
I cannot change the behavior of our President. I cannot change your behavior! But I can, with God's help, change my behavior and point you in the direction where you can find help! Jesus Christ! Read the following verses and let them sink in slowly. After reading those verse, if you find you are not sure of your salvation, please click on Salvation and find how you can know Jesus and beat sin! If your are sure of your salvation, then join with me in reaching out to a world in need with the only real hope. --Pastor Jim
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Matthew 6:33Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:7-8
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:4
Prayer: Lord, help us to put our energy and our all into being more and more like you!
