~About the Teacher~

My name is Lauri. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University in April 1994. I have also earned 95 hours of early childhood training April 2000.

I am certified by the American Red Cross in infant and child CPR and first aid and I recertify annually.

I am registered with Child Care Resources

MunchkinLand is primarily located in the basement of my home. We have a capacity of 6 children, including my own three. We have a large play area with various interest centers (housekeeping, blocks and building, reading), an area for art and unstructured learning activities, and a bathroom for the children's use. The playground consists of a large fenced area with a variety of large muscle apparatus and a sand play area. Meals and snacks are served in the dining area. This is my family's home as well as a childcare. Though we do spend some time in the main floor living room, children are not allowed in the bedrooms. This is to preserve my family's privacy. I appreciate your respect in this matter. You may bring your child to the side door (into the kitchen) and ring the doorbell, which rings in the childcare area. downstairs.

The major goal of the childcare program is to support the growth and development of young children. Each child is given the opportunity to learn in a secure and loving environment.

Each child is treated as an individual with specific needs and interests. Comparisons with others are avoided. The child is encouraged to attempt projects, but the results need not be perfect. Whatever children accomplish on their own is worthy of recognition. Each child is given responsibility for completing projects on his/her own.

Each child is encouraged to respect the rights of others. Physical violence is discouraged. Children are instructed and encouraged to use words to solve problems. Children learn to be responsible for their own actions.

Christianity is emphasized in the MunchkinLand program. There are occasional Bible-themed activities, daily devotions and prayers.
