Claiborne Vaughan was born in 1779 in Virginia. He was the son of Samuel Vaughan and Prudence Hood. Claiborne died in 1834 in Bartholomew Co., Indiana, at the age of 55. He married Mary Nall on 11 November 1799 in Washington Co., Kentucky. She was born in 1779 in Culpepper Co., Virginia. They had 9 children:

4. James Vaughan, born in 1804
5. Martin Vaughan, born after 1800
6. William Vaughan, born 1808
7. Claburn Vaughan, born after 1810

9. James D. Vaughan, born after 1810
Claiborne married his second wife, Katherine Haynor on 24 December 1832. No children born of this marriage.
