Many of today’s “Christian” leaders are moving swiftly towards the one-world church unaware, the ecumenical movement being the tool whereby they are deceived. Men like Pat Robertson, Chuck Colson, etc. are telling former Catholics that Catholicism is Christian and that we should accept them as brothers and sisters in Christ, even though the Lord told us to “Come out of her, my people”. If we dare to disagree with these so-called “prophets”, they spew out “you are mean-spirited”, or “you have hatred”, accusations which so conveniently excuse them from owning up to their false doctrine. This is the kind of of propaganda that Hitler used.
“In Hitler’s words, the propagandist should adopt ‘a systematically one-sided attitude towards every problem that has to be dealt with.’ He must never admit that he might be wrong or that people with a different point of view might be even partially right. Opponents should not be argued with; they should be attacked, shouted down, or, if they become too much of a nuisance, liquidated.”
That is why the Catholics and Protestants have so readily added “Catholic bashers” to their vocabulary. Our only recourse is to refer to the Word of God, which I would like to do in this article. There I find comfort for my soul... a drink to refresh me.
There was a prophet from Judah who was sent to Bethel to prophesy against Jeroboam’s altars of idolatry.
“And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.” (I Kings 13:2)
Now what did Jeroboam do at those altars that provoked the Lord to anger to pronounce such judgment?
“...he made a house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.” (I Kings 12:31)
Ex.3:10 states this was forbidden by law:
“And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on the priest’s office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.” (Emphasis mine)
Jeroboam also had two calves of gold set up in Bethel and Dan, and had the Israelites worship these idols...
“...devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.” (I Kings 12:28-33)
Jeroboam was not much different in this respect than the Catholic hierarchy. Just as Jeroboam made priests of the lowest of the people who were not of the tribe of Levi...so has Rome consecrated her priests who are not of the tribe of Levi. Jeroboam set up idols... Rome set up idols. And just as Jeroboam ordained feasts devised of his own heart and not out of the mouth of the Lord, so has Rome set up idolatrous feasts; (Christmas, Easter, Lent, Immaculate Conception, etc.). Visit a nearby shrine and see the altars that are set up to Mary and filled with idols and you will get a clear picture of what it must have been like for the prophet of Judah who was to prophesy against these abominations.
Jeroboam at first tried to lay his hands on the prophet to do him harm when he heard the prophecy, but his hand dried up until he entreated the prophet of Judah to pray that God restore it. After the king’s hand was healed, he said:
“...Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward.” (I Kings 13:7)
But the man of God said unto Jeroboam:
“...If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place: For so was it charged me by the word of the Lord, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor turn again by the same way that thou camest.” (I Kings 13:8-9) (Emphasis mine)
We know that God never changes, (Mal.3:6 states, “For I am the LORD, I change not”) therefore if God says don’t eat and drink in a place of idolatry, He means it. But there came a prophet from Bethel who, when he heard all the things that were said and done by the prophet from Judah, sought after him. Finding him sitting under an oak tree, the prophet from Bethel said:
“...Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am. Then he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread. And he said, I may not return with thee, nor go in with thee: neither will I eat bread nor drink water with thee in this place: For it was said to me by the word of the Lord, Thou shalt eat no bread nor drink water there, nor turn again to go by the way that thou camest.”
You would think the prophet from Bethel would respect the prophet from Judah and the word of God that was spoken to him, but alas...deceit was in his heart.
“He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. BUT HE LIED UNTO HIM.” (I Ki.3:18) (Emphasis mine)
The prophet of Judah wouldn’t sell out for money, but he was persuaded to listen to a false prophet instead of obeying what God had told him, and he went back the way he came and ate bread and drank water in that place of idolatry. The consequences were disastrous, for as they sat at the table, the prophet of Bethel had a true word from the Lord:
“And he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast disobeyed the mouth of the LORD, and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee, But camest back, and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread, and drink no water; thy carcass shall not come unto the sepulcher of thy fathers. And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled for him the ass, to wit, for the prophet whom he had brought back. And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and slew him: and his carcass was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, the lion also stood by the carcass.” (I Kings 13:21-24)
When the prophet of Bethel heard what had happened to the prophet from Judah, he said:
“...It is the man of God, who was disobedient unto the word of the LORD: therefore the LORD hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake unto him.” (I Kings 13:26)(Emphasis mine)
The prophet of Bethel found the carcass of the prophet from Judah and mourned his death and laid the prophet in his own grave saying, “Alas, my brother.”
“And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spake to his sons, saying, When I am dead, then bury me in the sepulcher wherein the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones: For the saying which he cried by the word of the LORD against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.” (I Kings 13:31-32)
The prophet from Bethel repented and believed God’s word. But Jeroboam did not repent of his evil ways, but continued to make, of the lowest of the people, priests of the high places.
“And this thing became sin unto the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.” (I Kings 13:34)
You might be wondering what does that have to do with today? It is simple...God told us IN HIS WORD that we are not to eat and drink in the place of idolatry.
“What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.” (I Cor.10:19-21)
As you can see from the above scripture, God does not change. We are still warned not to eat and drink in a place of idolatry. So why then does Pat Robertson, Chuck Colson, etc. not only encourage Christians to do so, but defame and deride those who are trying to sound the alarm? (Eze.3:17-21) They lie against the truth (Jer.9:5) and all those who listen to them will be torn by the lion (Satan - I Pet.5:8) for disobeying God’s Word. Perhaps Pat Robertson and his followers will repent in the end...but how many people who listened to them will believe those lies and die in their sins? How many will have to suffer, and possibly forfeit their lives during the tribulation, at the hands of Anti-Christ, to purify them of all the false doctrine poured into their hearts and minds by devious “prophets” whose only agenda is greed (Jude 11-13) and self-glorification? Psalms 141:4 says,
“Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.”
“For both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the Lord.” (Jer.23:11)
Catholicism is a house of idolatry. They have set up their idols and made priests of the lowest of people (child-molesters, homosexuals, murderers, etc.). God is calling out millions of Catholics who are learning that they cannot partake in the Eucharist (eating of bread) because it is idolatry. We cannot drink their watered-down gospel. We cannot return from the way we came (“Come out of her”). To ask us to “eat and drink” with Catholicism is to ask us to disobey God. “...We ought to obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)
