Bailey's Tail
I have been finding table lights left on
in our bedroom when I was sure that they were turned off. Well,
the mystery has been solved. They are touch lights, and Bailey
discovered that he can turn the lights on by himself by touching
them with his nose. (My husband caught Bailey in the act).
I'm glad we don't have any touch lights anywhere else in the
house, or our light bill would be through the ceiling. ...... Submitted by Bailey's Mom, Sheila from
Greenville, SC.

Sunny's Tail
My dogsitter/walker misplaced his house key and was sitting
on the couch talking to himself aloud and said "Where did I
put the *keys*!" Whereupon
Sunny went into the kitchen garbage and brought him an empty box
of macaroni and *cheese*. OK, so he
can't read too well - but at least it rhymes! (True Story) .... Submitted by Sunny's Mom, Liz from Baltimore, MD.

Track Tail
Some years ago I was standing by the escape (the end of the
track) and one of the dogs collapsed after finishing the race.
The owner vaulted the fence and ran over and started giving CPR
to the dog by blowing down it's nose. Some old bag standing near
me said words to the effect that it was the grossest thing she
had ever seen and dog men were disgusting people, etc.,etc. The
owner, between breaths, turned around and said, "Lady, this
dog cost me $3000 and for $3000 I'd blow in the other end."
(By the way, the dog recovered.) .... Submitted

Lazer's Tail
Last night, I had one of those big whole-house air circulator
floor fans running on "slow"
(thank
goodness for small favors) when I heard a sound like the old
playing-card-in-the-bicycle-spokes.
Lazer was whizzing in the fan. He didn't get the
motor, fortunately, since the result might have resembled the
time my aunt's cat sprayed into an electrical outlet. If he did
it to mark territory, though, he certainly hit the jackpot - and
half the room, all at once. Like I said before, I should have
stock in Outright....Submitted by Cathy

Riley's Tail
Our Riley (white
dog on the right) is one to horde rawhides. When all five dogs
get rawhide strips at night, he'll take his and hide it in the
closet, then come back to see if anyone else walks away from
theirs. If they do, he takes theirs to the closet also. Then, in
the morning, he brings them out to chew on while we get ready for
work.
Yesterday morning we awoke to Riley chewing on a
rawhide. This morning he was curled up with a wad of three one
dollar bills between his paws. We think he's planning a shopping
trip. <giggle> ....Submitted by Jack and Amy Corrigan from New Berlinville, PA

Crescent's (& Gizmo's) Tail
My Shih Tzu,
Gizmo, and greyhound, Crescent, have never been close; Crescent
enjoys pouncing on her big brother too much and Gizmo is a bit
snarly with her in response. However, I do believe they have an
"understanding" when it comes to getting treats. I keep
one stash of treats in a cabinet above my dryer in the laundry
room. Gizmo can't reach the top of the dryer, but Crescent can,
so I think Giz encouraged Cres to climb on top of the dryer and
use that needle nose to grab the treat bag. I came home to find
doggie biscuits all over the laundry room, and two very full
puppies. I put locks on the laundry room cabinets. Just last
night, Cres walked over to the "special treat" stash in
the dining room cabinets and proceeded to use that needle nose to
open the cabinet while Giz grabbed the treat bag. I confiscated
the treats, but gave them each one for their ingenuity and
teamwork. (-; I guess I need to put locks on all of the cabinets
now. ....Submitted by Pamela D. Hanes from Texas

Zima's Tail
Our first gh Zima had been with us
only a month or two and was still learning that
hard-to-comprehend notion that food was not automatically his
simply because it was within his reach. Michael had been
patiently working on "leave it" and "no", and
Zima was beginning to respond. One night at the computer, Michael
set a plate with a piece of pizza on the table next to the
moniter. He gave the salivating Zima a warning look and a firm
"no". In the half second it took for him to glance at
the moniter, the hound grabbed the pizza and bolted for the
bedroom door. From the kitchen, I hear a bloodcurdling yelp, as
if someone is skinning the hound alive--I run to the bedroom
demanding to know what Michael has done to the poor dog!
Apparently, Michael had picked up a crumpled T-shirt and hurled
it after the thief; it arced down in a graceful swoosh and
brushed Zima's fleeing hindquarters by the barest millimeter. Yet
to Zima, this has been a most devastating and traumatic injury
(to his pride!) He has never stolen food since....!! ....Submitted by Michael Rall and Dru Marquis

River's Tail
River is our second gh and although we love him
without reservation, we have come to
realize
that he is "not the brightest bulb on the Christmas
tree". One morning as I was still lying in bed--a low futon
frame just inches off the floor--deciding if I should get up yet,
I feel River shift his position next to me (he's a big boy and
you notice when he moves!) I then hear him slowly sliding off the
bed and the inevidible THUNK as he
hits the hardwood floor. I look over my shoulder and see just a
gh rear still in place on the bed! Then his head looks up at me
surprised. His mouth opens in a silly grin and his tail begins to
thump as if he is realizing the joke. He puts his head back on
the floor and proceeds to go back to sleep!! I laughed for the
rest of the day. ....Submitted by Michael Rall and Dru Marquis

Sara's Tail
Sara, my 9 1/2 year old grey that I've had about
a year now, just loves shoes and slippers. She doesn't chew them,
she just likes to sleep with them. If you leave any around the
house, she'll quietly go around, pick them up, put them in her
bed and lay on them. Well, last night I was sitting in the living
room watching t.v. with Howard and Sara comes in. All of a sudden
she started pawing my foot (which had my fuzzy slipper on it).
When I asked her what she wanted, she just stared at my foot.
Well, I slipped my foot out of the slipper and Sara gently took
it and left the room and went to her bed. I guess she isn't
waiting for us to leave shoes and slippers around anymore - she
wants them on demand! It was just so cute and her expression as
she stared at my foot with the slipper was just priceless. I wish
I'd had my camera nearby. ....Submitted by Patricia Hall from Massachusetts
