We're looking for information on John McDonald, b. Cape Briton, Nova Scotia about 1845. m. Bridget A. b. about 1857 in Ireland. No idea where or when they married. They had a farm just outside Manistee, Mich somewhere and are supposedly buried on the old homestead. Known children Barney D. b. approx. 1877, Duncan J. b. 1879, Angus D. (?) Also family adopted Jane B. b. approx 1872 (?) Information we have said Jane b. in 1882 but was supposedly from 1880 Census & she was 8 so probably 1872 or it would have to have been the 1890 Census. Fred T. Johnson, 1884-1956 and Gertrude E. Johnson,1888-1976 residents of Manistee from early 1900's. They were born in Stockholm and Goteburg, Sweden respectively and came to the Manistee area as young adults, met and were married here.

They worked in logging camps in the area as cooks, owned the Park Food Shop in Manistee (now the Sunrise Bakery) on River Street. Fred was a Great Lakes Ship chief cook on the Roen Steamship line and others in the 20's thru the 50's until he was 70. They raised three children in Manistee. He took his wife, two young daughters, Clarice and Ina and son Carl on various great lakes ships in the summer and they were allowed to travel the Lakes with him.

Their son, Dr. Carl T. Johnson of Moline, IL was also employed by a shipping company during high school summer months as a shipboard orchestra member.I would like to know the names of the ships which they traveled, for the Roen Steamship Line and others. He also was on the Wotan or Woutan (sp).
