We're looking for information on John McDonald, b. Cape Briton, Nova Scotia
about 1845. m. Bridget A. b. about 1857 in Ireland. No idea where or when
they married. They had a farm just outside Manistee, Mich somewhere and are
supposedly buried on the old homestead. Known children Barney D. b. approx.
1877, Duncan J. b. 1879, Angus D. (?) Also family adopted Jane B. b. approx
1872 (?) Information we have said Jane b. in 1882 but was supposedly from
1880 Census & she was 8 so probably 1872 or it would have to have been the
1890 Census. Any information you might have would be appreciated.

Second child, Harriet, born NY shortly after the family arrived from
England. Third child, Mary Hanna b: 6 Oct 1855 in Kalamazoo, m: Amasa
Leander WALKER 1877 in Manistee, MI.
Richard WILSON d: after 1880. Is there an Arcadia or Arcadia Cemetery
around Manistee where Richard WILSON might be buried? Wife, Alice, buried
in Manistee but I don't know when. Richard WILSON is my g.grandfather. I
would like to contact descendants and would share information.

Denmark, and died April 26, 1947 in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County,
Wisconsin USA. He married ELLA FREIBERG, daughter of JOHN FREIBERG and
ANNA ANDERSEN. Will exchange information.

Francis (Franz) ZUMMACH, wife Rosalia KLAWUN Zummach,
children Justina born in 1858 and Rosalia F. born in 1860. Immigrated from Prussia to Ontario in 1861; to Manistee in 1863. Moved to Hazel Green, Iowa in 1866.
Also researching Robert MATZ and wife Anna GUNDERBERG (JUNDERBERG) immigrated from Prussia to Ontario, through Michigan possibly, and on to Britt or Wesley, Iowa. Immigration time period of 1876-1890.

VENNE family. George Joseph and Irene Sima nee Pantilla.
George b.July 1,1896 Manistee d. June 1974, Palmer, Alaska.
George had bros. Arson and Ed. Sisters Alma,Lillian,Marcy,
Edna and poss. Flo. In 1935 the government moved the family
to Palmer, Alaska and at that time they had 3 children, Marcilene,
George Jr. and Eileen. all born in Manistee. Irene's family
John Wesley & Sima Irene Pantilla lived in St. Joseph, Benton
Harbor area. Irene Venne was Luthern and George Venne was
catholic and served as alterboy and in choir. Any info would
be greatly appreciated.

BELL/COWGILL Looking for information on Cowgills and Bells.
John W. Cowgill, wife Miriam Smith Cowgill from Ohio by way of
Indiana, arrived in Manistee MI approx 1866. John moved with his
grown children George and Augusta Cowgill, also his daughter
Percilla Jane Cowgill Bell and her husband William Wallace Bell.
All of the above listed were born in Ohio but most I believe died
in Manistee Michigan. Children of William and Percilla Jane Bell
were Sarah, Katherine, George F., Clara May, William, Retta, and
James Edgar. Clara May married Franklin Cameron McManus in 1881,
William married Anna Lusina (?)in 1885, Retta married Orlin
Keillor in 1900 and James married Jenny May (?)in 1900 and Emma
Ackerman Peterson in 1921.

Researching the surnames SZPREJDA/SPRADER & ZAMBROWSKI. Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated. The information we have comes from the marriage records of my husbands grandparents, and death certificates.
Valentini SZPREJDA(Valentine SPRADER), and wife Mariannae/Mary
ZAMBROWSKI were members of St. Joseph Parish in Manistee, MI.
Their son William SPRADER(Bolistauv SZPREJDA), dob. May 12, 1887 in MI., married Anna Marie SLIWINSKI on May 18, 1915, at St. Stanislaus, Bay City, MI.
As far as we know there were still SPRADER relatives living in the Manistee area in the 1970's. We will share any information we have.

Fred T. Johnson, 1884-1956 and Gertrude E. Johnson,1888-1976
residents of Manistee from early 1900's. They were born in
Stockholm and Goteburg, Sweden respectively and came to the
Manistee area as young adults, met and were married here.
They
worked in logging camps in the area as cooks, owned the Park
Food Shop in Manistee (now the Sunrise Bakery) on River Street. Fred was a Great Lakes Ship chief cook on the Roen
Steamship line and others in the 20's thru the 50's until he
was 70. They raised three children in Manistee. He took his
wife, two young daughters, Clarice and Ina and son Carl on
various great lakes ships in the summer and they were allowed
to travel the Lakes with him.
Their son, Dr. Carl T. Johnson of
Moline, IL was also employed by a shipping company during high
school summer months as a shipboard orchestra member.I would like to know the names of the ships which they traveled, for the Roen Steamship Line and others. He also was on the Wotan or Woutan (sp).

I am looking for information on the ARNER'S and the JOHNSON'S.
Specifically on Charles Franklin JOHNSON and His Wife Lydia(Luda, Lorda)ARNER.
The daughter of Samuel ARNER and his wife Lillian (Little Flower)who was Native American.
The only information I have are three census cards. Two for the
JOHNSON (2),ARNERS(1) 1900 & 1910. If anyone has any information
about either of these families or their decendants please contact me. I need any and all help that I can obtain.
They were relatives in the area after Charles's son William Franklin left prior to 1924.
I have also two new clippings from the Manistee Daily with the names Fred & Orpha M. (ARNER) SMITH (married 1912),
and Truman & Nellie (ARNER) SMITH (where Lillian passed on in 1908).These ladies were two of Lydia's sisters.

Susan was living in Manistee in 1870. Her sons Lewis, Charles, George and

Looking for anyone who may have knowledge of the
relatives or descendants of THOMAS WETUTSKI, who was born in
Poland about 1850. THOMAS and wife MARY were known to be
living in Stronch in July of 1880. There were four known
children living with them: ANTONINIA, (also known as Paulina)
CHARLES, MARY, and a 4th, name unknown. Two older children,
FRANK and HANNAH had already left home. All of the children
except the youngest, name unknown, were Mary's by a previous
marriage. Thomas worked as a laborer, Mary may have run a
boarding house. Any info greatly appreciated.

- He owned a logging and salt company that was located in and
around Manistee, MI.
- He also owned a home on the Northeast corner of Oak and Fifth
streets in Manistee, MI
- In 1865 he married Miss Isabella Marshall.

I am researching Joseph BLADZIK who was born in Poland and died in Manistee in 1947. He married Bronislawa (Bernice)
MODRZSEJEWSKI (spelling?). She was born Sept.7,1878 in Poland and died in Manistee on July 16,1945. They had 11 children, William, Joseph, Sally, Regina, Henry, Clara, Isabelle, Rose, Lucille, Aloysious and Blondine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
