The Great American Website
The best directory information available for the US Federal Government is at
The Great American Web Site, which calls itself
"A Citizen's Guide to the Treasures of the U.S. Government on the World Wide Web".
This site provides information about, and links to just about every government page that exists.
The Great American Website
contains detailed listings and links to all of the sites in:
- The Legislative Branch
- The Judicial Branch
- The Executive Branch
- Executive Departments
- Independent Establishments and Quasi-Official Agencies
For each of the entries within these groupings, there is a link to a page that contains a
description of the site, a link, and - where appropriate -
recommendations and links to interesting points on the site. The site's major shortcoming
is that there is no search engine for its listings, so that one must know that the Consumer
Information Center
is in the General Services Administration (GSA)
in order to find it. We have also found a few missing links such as the relatively new site for
practitioners
of
Federal Law,
which also falls under the purview of GSA; there is also mention of the
FAA in the Commerce Department, but no link to it.
Our recommendation is
that you enter
The Great American Web Site
at its
index.
