Meet Moosie the Hero Dog

My good friend Moosie has been nominated for "Companion Animal of the Year." He's a real, live hero. He tells his own story here:

In January, of 1983, I adopted my family, Lowell and Sue and their pet cat Killer. I was about one year old and tired of living on the streets. In 1984, Lowell and Sue, adopted 3 year old twins who tormented me by dressing me in doll clothes, and poking fingers in my eyes, ears and nose. It wasn't long, however, before I had them wrapped around my big paw. I am a well traveled family member, having been to Northern Michigan and Ohio to visit my Grandmas and to Chicago to visit my aunts and their golden retriever, Wild Baby. Also, on family vacations, I have traveled to Nova Scotia, Wyoming and Colorado.

Dr. Weber used to be one of my favorite people until I brought fleas into the house. They almost killed my pet cat, Killer. To get rid of my fleas, Dr. Weber did all kinds of crazy things to me, but she redeemed herself by removing cancer from me twice!

In the summer of 1996, I began to have trouble breathing. When my family was watching a movie on TV, I suddenly couldn't breath and began gasping for air. Mom took me to Dr. Webers and she sent me to the Michigan Veterinary Specialists, where Dr. Alsup proclaimed I had a paralyzed larynx. I had surgery the next day and except for losing my beautiful bark, I felt like a puppy again.

On Nov.18,1996, dad came home from work early to shingle the roof. Sue was in the house working and didn't hear my dad when he fell off the roof. I knew he fell and made mom let me out of the house. When she let me out, I led her right to dad and then she called the ambulance. I helped save his life!

Some people think I am just an old mutt, but I say life begins at 15 1/2.

Thanks for visiting. I'd love to hear from you.
