MY TRIBUTE TO LEW

The angels were all gathered on Heaven's beautiful shore
Laughing, sharing, talking and even more...
They were trying to anticipate (of their own accord)
Whom was entitled to the-most-deserving-angel award.
One asked, "is there a soul amongst us, whom can truthfully say
They honored their mother and father each and every day?"
"I know one who did!" angel Lillian stated without ado,
"One of the sweetest beings ever ... our son, Lew!
Even with raising a family and the busy schedule he had
He never once forgot he had a mother and a dad!" -.-
Her husband, Ed, in his easy manner said, "Oh, she is so right!
He was the most unselfish man and such a delight...
He had a sense of humor and was a compassionate guy
Laughing with those whom were happy ... sympathized with those whom did cry.
You know, after Mama went to Heaven and I could no longer stay alone
Lew and Leah opened their generous hearts and took me into their home... Sharing their food and fellowship ... and their grandchildren brought me glee.
They were my nursemaids for several years, and then one tomorrow
They had to place me in a rest home ... it caused them anguish and sorrow.
I pray Leah holds no bitterness towards me, her father-in-law...
In accepting her patient and loving care, I never once foresaw
Her dear husband would fall ill
so soon after my demise... WHY do these things happen? -----
It's so hard to analyze."
Silence fell amongst the angels,
but was broken when one inquired
"Is there a father here, whom
by his children was admired?"
"My Dad was!" came angel Bobby's quick reply,
"He was the greatest Dad on earth... the apple of my eye!
I was his pal, his fishing partner... well, his only son
And when Daddy took me places, we had lots of fun!
My 3 sisters, Diana, Mauri and Linda thought dad was pretty great, too...
He romped and played with and enjoyed all his kids, as all good fathers do...
And he had to be the proudest Grandpa any kid ever had!
How he enjoyed Toff, April, Little Lew, Christina, Bobby and Brad!
He loved taking his family to Marble Falls to his Lake-home on Cottonwood Shores
Where there was water skiing, fishing, bike riding ... all fun-things a kid adores!"
Another angel asked "Whom amongst us have led a Christian life, so good,
And served their Lord Jesus as any good Christian should?"
Thunder roared as all who knew him said, "Yes, Lewie Davenport!
South Austin Christian Church had his full support...
He served as deacon and elder, and preached sermons when the cause arose
And many other good things, of which the Lord knows!"
The next angelic question was,
"Is there a man here who remained faithful to his wife, And made
her a happy, contented woman by expressing his love all their married life?"
"I did!" came the answer as Lew made his presence known...
"And Golly! How I hated leaving my loved one all alone!
(Well, alone as without her life mate l'm at peace I assure you...
Knowing she has the company of Linda and Little Lew!)
We've spent 40 years together ... Yes! We've had trouble and strife,
But, our love weathered the rocky water of this sea, called 'life'.
Being one whom enjoyed their independence I'm sure my family has agreed
When I became disabled having to depend on others for my every need...
And knowing, in my heart, my hunting and fishing days were o'er..
Well, -- I'm where I belong ... here on this beautiful shore."
