Moving Day!

You've signed up for your homestead, and are ready to begin working on it. One of the most common questions from new homesteaders is, "How do I move into my site?"

Before we continue, take a look at your site. Use this format to go to your homestead:

http://www.oocities.org/Neighborhood/Suburb/address/

For example, if you were assigned to a homestead in Heartland Creek, site number (address) 4955, your website address would be:

http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Creek/4955/

When you go to your site, you will see your default home page. You will notice that the default page says that you haven't moved in yet.

What is "moving in" and how do you "move in"?

Yahoo! GeoCities defines "moving in" as creating a page with the file name index.html and uploading at least one other file into your directory.

Now, for moving in to your site.

The default page you just viewed on your site is your index.html file. This file must be updated, with your own page information. There are several ways to accomplish this.

You can create a page using an offine composer, then
upload it to your directory

You can use the GeoCities Basic HTML Editor to automatically
update the page (THIS IS THE QUICKEST AND EASIEST WAY
TO UPDATE YOUR INDEX.HTML FILE)

You can, if you are familiar with HTML, use the
Advanced HTML Editor to code your own page
