Reno Police Department

Reno is located at the junction of Interstate 80, 17 miles east of California and U.S. 395. There are a lot of patches on this page, so be patient and give it a little extra time to load.

This is the first patch for the department, (left). Thanks to Darryl Plumb we now know that this patch was phased out in 1988. The last ones came off of the uniforms around 1989 or 1990.
This is the badge patch, (right) that went with the first patch.
The Reno Police Department used to have a jail. This patch was worn by the jailers until the time that the Washoe County Sheriff's Office began taking all prisoners in the Reno/Sparks area.
This is the current patch and badge patch being used by the department. They have been around since 1988.
This was the first SWAT patch. This was only worn for a short time under acting Chief Jim Weston.
Weston never really liked the patch, so it was never officially authorized.
This is the current SWAT patch, (left) which is authorized and worn.

This is the SWAT badge patch, (right) that goes with the SWAT patch.

Here is the Animal Control patch. It would be nice to know how many Animal Control officers the agency had, and when they started using them.

If you look at this patch, the SAVE patch, and the current patch, the color scheme and state seal are the same.

This is the Honor Guard patch worn by those that have the black uniforms. This is a Senior Volunteer patch. The program is also known as SAVE. I saw some of them at the last officer's memorial service in Reno. They were acting as ushers at the memorial.

The seniors walk downtown, in school zones with portable radar boards, basically being extra "eyes" out on the road.

These are three rockers I found from the department. There is one other, which is the "Explorer", and not in my collection. The Cadet program is defunct, having been terminated about 1992 due to funding cutbacks.
LEFT - This is the new Honor Guard patch.

RIGHT - This is a completely different style patch for the department.

I know these folks are around and working because I have seen the little scooters they drive. However, I don't know if they are sworn.

The newest addition to the collection is this Reno Meter Division patch.

I understand that there may be two new patches coming out. Those would be the new "Dispatcher" and the C.I.N.T. "Crisis Incident Negotiation Team" patches.
