State of Tennessee Jackson County Aug the 27 1848
Dear brother in law I have once More taken
my pen in hand to let you now that we are
All well at presant hoping these few
lines may reach you all injoying the same
blessing When they come to hand I must
form you that received yur letter dated the
31 of July which gave us much satisfaction to
hear from you all we received your letter 24 of August
I must in form you that I am very sorry
that you have give out Mooving this
fall if you put it of till next fall I
doubt you will Never come and we
All are anxious for you to come we want
to see you all very bad if you want to come
I think you had beter not stay on the a
count of Mary ann for I think the change
of water and climate might be the means of
re storing her to health a gaine I think
you had beter come this fall there is
first rate crops in this country of wheat
and corn wheet is worth fifty cents per
bushel corn is worth 50 cents per barel
bacon is worth 7 cents per pound I sold 200
and twenty five pounds at seven cents
and I have oferd to sell a Hundred weight
moore but bacon is so plenty I dont no
whether I can sell or not pork is worth
two Dollars and fifty cent per hundred

as John sears is going to wright to Collins so I add no

Dear unkle William W sears I now take my
pen in hand to in form you that we are all
well at present hoping that hese few lines
will reach and find you all injoying the
same blessing you said that I could beat you
a writing but you could beat me a spelling but
I think that I can beat you a spelling as far as I can
beat you a writing well now I have mended my pen and
now maby I can tell something else un Wm
W sears as for coming to see you some of these
saturday nights that is not easily done but come
over a sunday and I will go home a saturday if you
will come back with me again you said that you did
not fell much concerned in the election
but I do I can say hurah for "Z" taylor and
that is all I will inform you that the Tennessee
boys all that is alive has returned from Mexico
and there is great feasting among them and
barbecues and great taking on there is a barbecue
in livinston next saturday this 27 sunday and 27 Aug
this barbecue is going to be made
for the soldiers they have made up $400 for the
fixings of it there was a talk that 3 or 4
people was going to be hung on that day
I will write a line here to show you how good I cant write
Learning and manners are charming companions
I will inform you that I do not know but that
I can beat you areading for last winter
my father and some others nimbering
all about nineteen or 20 made up a sum of money
bought a library of books and they meet about
every 3 or 4 weeks and get an other book I have
been going to school I have bee as far in the
Arithmetic as compound multiplication

I done it in a great hurry so I must
come to a close is geting so dark that I

bring mother and the gearls out
