Family Tree Maker (TM) FAQ 013
What is a "spouseless relationship"?

A spouseless relationship is merely one where there is a child with only one indicated parent.

Usually, what is meant, however, is a situation created by Merge. When a parent (P) is merged with his married image (p), any child of (P) is not automatically assumed to be the child of (p)'s spouse. Instead, FTM creates a second marriage for the composite (Pp), with no spouse (or an unknown spouse, if you prefer), and makes the child a child of this spouseless relationship.
