The four Western Canadian provinces are home to nine million people.
Well over a third of these live in the province of British Columbia, and just under a third live in Alberta. The remainder are slit almost equally between Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Statistics Canada provides population data for the following Census Metropolitan Areas in the four Western Canadian provinces.
A Census Metropolitan Area is defined as a "very large urban area (or urban core) together with adjacent urban and rural areas that have a high degree of social and economic integration." The urban core has "a population of at least 100,000 based on the previous census."
