sisters. Erastus enlisted in the 23rd Light Artillery, Union Army at Plattsburgh, NY 0n 2 Sep 1864, 1 day after
his son James Erastus was born. He died Oct. 29, 1864 in New Bern, NC, and is buried in the National Cemetery there.(New
York State Archives; Civil War Enlistment Records Warren Co. NY, on microfilm)

Abigail Serepta Shedd, Daughter of Samuel Shedd and Esther
FRENCH)James Erastus was a farmer in Bolton Landing, NY,
and was know for most of his life as Erastus or Rat for short. On his death, the family farm had to be sold to
liquidate debts (Ella had died the previous year.)

BAKER, daughter of Mallory BAKER and Sylvia Viola BAKER, b. 1891 d. 1981. Charles and Cordelia lived on the
family farm until his father Erastus died in 1930. They moved to North Bolton to homestead. In 1934 Charles contracted
TB and was placed in a sanitorium to recover.

and Ferna Adella WALSH, b. 1916 d. 1981 (known as Betty). When his father contracted TB, Arthur was forced to quit
school at 14 to provide support for his large family and insure the others finished school. A carpenter, bricklayer,
skilled horseman, and general all-around jack of all trades, Arthur served as Chief of the Bolton Volunteer Fire
Department for many years, and was a devout Mason.
