Smothers Researchers
James Franklin Smothers - born September 11, 1837 in Carroll County Tennessee. He served in the U.S. 7th Tennessee Calvary during the civil war. He was a soldier for the Union. After the war he returned to Benton County Tennessee and became a Methodist Minister. He died on January 10, 1916.
He married first on April 29, 1857:
Sarah Elizabeth (Dutch) Barnes - born August 24, 1837. She was the daughter of William and Sarah (Wyatt) Barnes. She died September 26, 1883.
Their children were:
William Green Smothers - born in 1858. He married Mary Elizabeth Kee on February 10, 1884. He died in 1892.
Andrew John Thomas Smothers - born October 7, 1859. He married Martha C. Hicks on August 10, 1881. He died January 6, 1905.
Sarah Elizabeth Smothers - born 1862. She married Wm. Hawkins Merrick on December 30, 1880. She died 1886.
Robert Seaborn Smothers - born April 3, 1866. He died March 20, 1889.
Martin Luther Smothers - born January 22, 1869. He married Sallie B. Barnes on December 26, 1889. He died December 20, 1959.
Thomas Jordan smothers - born November 20, 1871. Married Martha E. Brackin on March 5, 1893. He died August 8, 1956.
Mary Jane Smothers - born June 3, 1876. Married George Riley Watson February 28, 1901. She died April 22, 1913.

- born May 3, 1879. Died June 1, 1951.

Victoria (Cora) Alice Baggett - born on November 20, 1884. She was the daughter of Henry W. and Elvira (Ballowe) Baggett. She died March 27, 1948.

Laura Smothers - born November 30, 1885. She married John Henry Patterson. She died June 6, 1939.
James Logan Smothers - born May 3, 1887. He married Dovie Wright on February 26, 1907. He died October 18, 1974.
Minnie Smothers - born August 9, 1888. Married Elihu Florence in 1916. She died August 1, 1980.
Elbert H. (Jack) Smothers - born May 2, 1890. He married Minnie Burnette on August 13, 1921. He died July 26, 1961.
Pearl (Pearlie) May Smothers -
born August 16, 1892. Married Carlos Hicks. Died July 13, 1954.
Ernest Hawkins Smothers - born May 3, 1879. He was a merchant, postmaster in Camden Tennessee. He was the owner of the Dixie Theater until his death on June 1, 1951. He married on December 21, 1898 to:
Rosa Bell Ellis - born May 10, 1880. She was the daughter of William Daniel and Laura Frances (Ogles) Ellis. She died April 27, 1968.

Infant son - born August 11, 1900. Died August 13, 1900.
Lorene Smothers - born March 13, 1904. She married John Morgan Sims.
Grace Elizabeth Smothers - born October 6, 1905. She married John Shirley Davidson on June 3, 1926.
Fannie Ruth Smothers - born July 7, 1909. She died October 13, 1911
Ernestine Smothers - born September 23, 1913. She married William MacAuther Holladay on May 19, 1934.
