I was born in Floyd County, KY in a place called McCurry Branch. My father had three brothers whose names were Grover Cleveland McCURY and William Jack McCURRY. He also had 12 sisters. I don't have the marrried names of these sisters, or if any of them living at this time. We left Ky when I was about 6 years old, so never got to know any of my aunts, both of my uncles came to visit my Father here in Idaho. If someone is related to the McCurry side of my family I would love to hear from them. I have heard that my Grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. I remember one of my Aunts names and it is Hattie and I think her married name was Bennet. My Grandmothers name was Artie Gayheart or Gearheart. My Mother was born in Printer and her Father was John D. Halbert, and her mother was Mary Dingus. Any one related on either side of the family I would love to hear from anyone. I grew up without ever knowing any of my cousins or family members. As my Grandparents on both sides of the family passed away before I was born, so I would like to learn more about my heritage. What is the meaning of the word Concubine used in an 1860 census? Used as "Concubine Katy Smith" We are trying to trace our family heritage. Descendent of a coal miner from Bevensville, KY. Researching coal mines from that area. My grandfather worked in a non-union mine sometime before his death at age 34 approx. 1960. Searched on the Web but have not found much info. on mining in Floyd Co. at least not the history of miners, mining, and the mining companies. On a recent trip to Wheelwright, I saw an old mine opening with the name Inland Steel Co. I tried looking this up but had no luck. In searching for my roots, I would like to know how my ancestors lived, so any information would be appreciated. My Grandfather's name was Ernest Hall.
