Central Virginia & the 1864 Campaign
The Wilderness
I began my tour of Central Virginia and the 1864 Campaign on the afternoon of October 23, 2000, crossing the Blue Ridge and making my way into scenic Orange County. Because I'd had a late start, touring did not begin in earnest until the following morning.
My first stop after leaving the city of Orange was at the Wilderness Battlefield Exhibit Shelter, just after entering the Federicksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.
Though there is not a visitor center at The Wilderness, there is a well-marked self-guided walking tour.
