Luddy's Poetry Page

The following poems are "Originals" that I have written for my Daughter, April.  She is my only child, and I love her "dearly".  I have decided to share these with you because April & I have a very special relationship.  She has blessed me in my life in so many ways!  Three "Beautiful Granddaughters" and is always there by my side.  April is a strong minded young woman, full of love and this Mother's Pride and Joy.  I have listed the poems in the order that I have written them, which you will notice for her "21st" Birthday...I owed her 3!  April was married in October of 1986, and a few weeks later, our "Rock and Foundation", her Father,(my husband), Bobby suffered a severe heartattack followed by open heart surgery.  The following days and months just seemed to quickly pass us by, and I failed to continue my poetry to her.  In looking back, I'm not sure why I let the nine years pass before writing another Birthday Poem for her.  Just goes to show "How fast time slips away".

I hope that you enjoy reading these poems, but please don't take any of them, they belong to April.   ; )

Seventeen years ago a bundle of joy from heaven arrived,
Every day since then, has been filled with glorious pride!
Vowed I on that very special afternoon,
Even then someday to give you the moon.
Not all parents can be as happy as we,
To have raised such a lovely lady as thee!
Emeralds, diamonds, and the purest gold,
Empy, compared to the precious memories forever to hold.
Never do I want you to forget,
your Mother is your "Best Friend" yet.....

Love,
Mama

Angels in Heaven know how proud I am today.
Recess is now over and no more time for play.
Past school days I'll always remember,
most special that 1st day in September.
Radiant is your beauty for all the world to see,
you're a very special person, the way God meant for it to be.
If you ever feel that you have reached an end....
always remember, Mama, your "Best Friend".
Love, life, and laughter the goals you must strive,
now that you're a "Graduate from the Class of 1985".

Love,
Mama

Eighteen years have fled by too fast, all in my memory forever to last.
Iknew it would happen, you'd grow up too soon, you're a beautiful young lady, like roses in full bloom.
Giggles and pigtails were my favorite years, wiping your nose and eyes full of tears.
High school is over and college begins, my missing you each day, will never end.
The love I have in my heart for you, grows stronger from the love you give back too!
Even though I'd like to keep you here, with me at home, I know one day you'll have one of your own.
Each time I think about it, I get sad, I remember the "little baby", I once had.
Now the time has come, I must let you go, it's not going to be easy, so let's take it slow.

Love,
Mama

Nineteen was a day to remember...
Igave you an "IOU" the 14th day of September.
Nicely gift wrapped with "You are my Sunshine",
Even then I knew, you were no longer mine.
Thoughts back then were hard to say,
Each day grew closer, to your Wedding Day.
Embraced with memories, of your growing older,
Next month you became "Mrs. Michael Gordon Coker".

Mama

Teenage years you leave behind,
Womanhood surrounds you, be gentle, loving and kind.
Eternal love is yours to keep,
Nevermore heartaches, nor time to weep.
Thanks for all the times we've shared,
You know I Love You, and I've "Always" cared!!

Love,
Mama

Time has a way of slipping by fast,
Was only yesterday I held you, forever to last.
Each year you grow older, and so do I,
Nuggets of wisdom and sweet lullaby.
Those are the things you have given to me,
You are so precious, like the sky and the sea.
Ours is special, the love we share.
Nourished by "Sunshine", so rich and rare.
Eagles we are, Eagles we'll stay, I Love You, April,
Happy 21st Birthday!

Love,
Mama

Thousands of sweet memories, rush through my mind.
Heart filled with love that forever binds.
It's knowing the Mother you are today,
Rewarding and proud, as I watch your children play.
Time has a way of slipping by too fast,
Yes, now sweet April a strong shadow you cast.
"Happy Birthday Baby"
I Love You  !

Mama

Today is the beginning of another year,
Hopeful and promising for my child so dear.
Intriguing young woman, Mother of three,
Reaping our "rewards", Daddy and me.
Time for you and I, has not stood still,
Yesterdays roll by quickly, as they always will.
Only a Mother's love can caress you forever,
Never forget this my daughter, with each endeavor.
Ending this poem it's time to say,
I Love You, April,
Happy "31st" Birthday!

Love,
Mama
