Enjoyed your page very much. I'm glad you jumped into horses. They have been a lifelong passion and are always rewarding. I can even say that today as I continue a slow recovery from a fall off the nearly 17 hand "Comet." I was wearing my helmet so di not add head injury to my recuperation. No breaks, just severe bruising of the most padded parts of the body. In the meantime, I have started ground driving the beast and long driving him, until I can tolerate the saddle again. I have a total of four horses. A thoroughbred broodmare, Paint yearling filly, Paint gelding and my AQHA stallion Comet. Life is good!! Thanks for sharing!!

Hello Don, I enjoyed getting to know you and your family and your love of horses. You look like you enjoy them. I have loved horses since I was a child. I have the good fortune to have married a man that is a horse person also. We have 10 horses between us and o r children are all launched on their own so we support horses now. I try to share that horse interest with anyone interested enough to come and see our herd. They are for sale but we have long stretches between horse sales because they are part of our l fes. We have 4 foals due next spring so I hope to find new homes for some of them as space becomes a problem on our 5 acres. We specially love our American Saddlebreds {9} which we trail ride only and keep them naturally shoed and their manes and tails re long and natural. My Ace is the first purebred Saddlebred from my husband's stallion ,Northwest Traveler,{my husband has raised and trained Traveler} and now I am training Ace. I was doing great until last week when my Arab{14 years old} dumped me on my butt and cracked my tailbone. Now it is abit sore to be riding so I have a very experienced friend who is putting on miles on my Ace until I am fit to ride again. My husband and I both work and find it hard to spend the time we like with our horses bu we do the best we can. My husband maintains two older brood mares, both with bad feet which need frequent shoeing with protective pads which he does himself. He learned to shoe horses as a boy in the prairies on his father's workhorses. He has his work ut out for him with this herd . Generally we only put shoes on the ones we ride and keep the rest trimmed up. Most of the horse run on pasture during the summer and come home for the wet winters we have here. We have a barn with 9 tie stalls and 2 boxsta ls and a large free loafing area. We rarely stall them unless the weather is really dirty. Well I do go on. I find it encouraging that someone is following a dream in retirement that they had since a youngster. Happy Trails Stephanie Denis

Hi Don, I enjoyed your website. Someday I'd like to get one for our farm. Tim named our farm "Star Gleam Farm." We have two broodmares (Thoroughbreds) and three riding horses. All live here except for my Quarter Horse, Jet. He is being leased to a riding st ble in Columbia, Maryland. Also, he will likely be sold. Our newest addition to the barn, Aly, is 10+ months pregnant. I bought her at an auction on February 2, 1998 already in foal. Although her due date is March 3, 1998, I noticed that she is "waxin " tonight. So, Tim will be visiting our barn around 4 a.m. this morning. We may have a newborn by tomorrow morning.
