Hi.  I figure if you've come this far you're either really enjoying your visit and obviously know a genius child when you see one, or you're family and just checking in to see the latest brilliant development of Alexandra!   (Hey I didn't call this the Brag Board for nothing!).

Well here goes.................

October '99
I sure fell behind on this area, didn't I.  Hopefully I can fix that now.

In the middle of May '99 Alexandra and I went off to Fiji to visit with Daddy.  We had a wonderful two weeks and Alexandra loved playing all over the boat.

From Fiji we headed off to Vancouver to spend a month with my parents.   What a blast that was!  Alexandra loved being able to run around in her own garden and just be an outside type of kid.  Her vocab doubled at least and her dextiry it amazing

She has just had her two year birthday party and I can't believe how quickly the time has gone.  At her 2 year check up she's 13kg (29 lbs) and 92 cm.   She's right where she's supposed to be according to the doctor.  We did all the developmental tests and surprisingly (just kidding) she did really well.  The doctor was very impressed with her speech and then she broke into Indonesian and the doctor was floored!  I did just a little bit of gloating.  So now it's full sentences and lots of them.

Her favorite shows at the moment are Blue's Clues, Bear in The Big Blue House, and Thomas the Tank.  We seem to have gone off the Teletubbies, and not a moment too soon I might add.

I tried to start Potty Training...what a joke!  That's enough said on that subject.

All in all it's been a pretty good month and hopefully will continue so.   I'll try to keep these a little better updated, for those of you that are interested.

2nd - We were over visiting a friend today and Alexandra walked into the room I was in dragging my purse behind her.  She handed the strap to me grabbed my other hand pulled and said "home".  I got the message pretty quickly!  I don't think it's a trait I want to encourage but it sure showed me that things are developing in that cute little head.

Four more teeth this month!  Just a couple more molars to go and then it's a full set!

Swimming was big this month.  We tried to go down to the pool everyday (didn't always work but we tried).  She's so much more confident in the pool now.  Today she was walking along the bottom (of the baby pool) and lost her footing.   It didn't faze her at all, she just practiced floating on her back for awhile!   She's really starting to get the hang of swimming now.

Her vocabulary is huge now.  She actually put together her first "sentence" this month.  I asked her one morning what she wanted for breakfast and she pipes up with "toast, butter, honey".  So I gave her toast with butter and honey!  Food in general though is still a touchy subject.   She's still only eating French toast, raisins, bananas, apples, cheese, and yoghurt!  You'd think it would get kinda' boring after awhile.  Hopefully it does soon. Image1ABT.gif (10402 bytes) Her 18month checkup went as well as could be expected.  She was happily playing away in the waiting room and toddled in after me to the doctors office, stopped, looked around, spun around and walked out saying "Oh no, Oh no".   Well we got over that and most of the rest of it was fine until the doctor gave her the immunizations!  At least she doesn't need anymore for awhile now.  She was 12.5kg (28 lbs) and 85cm (33.5 inches).  I guess the limited diet can't be hurting that much!

Alexandra is almost going to need a new passport before she is even 2!  Martin has been down in Australia fixing up the boat for the last month and so Alexandra and I went on down to Sydney so we could see him.   Boy do I miss the days when she was small enough to go into the bassinets the planes have!  The flight down to Sydney from Jakarta is a night flight which I thought would be good as she would sleep the whole way there. There were two empty seats next to us but she didn't want to sleep there, she wanted to sleep all over mummy!

We spent the first night with Martins Aunt and Uncle in Sydney.   Once Alexandra saw the "woof woof" and the special door for the dog she was in seventh heaven!  In and out that dog door for two days!  Once Martin arrived we moved right into town, Darling Harbor, and stayed in a fantastic place close to the Maritime Museum.  When we arrived there Martin was already in the room and I was a little nervous about Alexandra's reaction when she saw him.  Silly me!  Martin opened the door, Alexandra took one look at him and started running (or a version there of) calling out Daddy!  After 3 days there we went up to Cairns (N. coast of Queensland) with Martin as he had to get back to the boat to finish off the overhaul.
Big Boat Alexandra and I managed to fill in our days while Martin was working.  We went to the "Wild Animal Park" one morning.  Feeding the Kangaroo's was a different experience for Alexandra.  She wasn't' too sure about having them eat out of her hand but was happy with Mummy feeding them and then she could touch them.  The most exciting thing as far as she was concerned there was a small earth mover that was doing some work in one of the animal enclosures!  We stood and watched that for a good 15 minutes!

One of the great things was that we could go out for walks!   Not something that we can do here in Jakarta.  We took the stroller and headed off to parks and all over the place.  I can't believe how quickly her vocabulary is coming along.  She now says "big boat, fish, toast, juice, toes, nose, habis, mandi (bath), bus, car, knows all the Teletubbies, tummy, eye, plane, swimming pool, water, and just about any other word that I say, including some that I shouldn't be saying. Oy!

January '99
Well it's been a big month this month.   We started with New Year which went off with a big bang here in the apartment.   Without anything to break up the sound of all the fireworks it was really loud!   Alexandra was not impressed!  Some of them sounded like bombs going off so it took a while to get her calmed down and over that for the evening.
She's really good now about not touching things that she knows she isn't supposed to.  Every now and then she'll try something but look at me first just to see if I'm going to have the same reaction.  Her new trick this month is to grab my hand and pull me to touch what ever it is she knows she's not supposed to do or touch (hence the do  little angel).  I wonder how long this will last?
We had two molars come in over New Year and now there seems to be another three of them coming in at the end of January!  That poor little mouth.  It hasn't been a great month for health either.  She had her first dose of the flu and just lay in our arms for 24 hours and didn't say a word but slept and moaned.  I felt soooo useless.  Her fever spiked at one point to 103.5 and I rushed to the doctor.  He of course told me everything was fine, her fever had come down by then.  Then just the other evening I thought I heard her coughing so went in to check on her and she decided to be ill.  Amazing how when it's your own child it doesn't bother you as much.  I think it was just all those molars coming in as she seems fine now.

Her vocabulary sure has improved this month.  She now asks for "juice" in the morning, points to any type of padlock or door lock and says "lock".  "Key" is another new one, must go along with the lock thing.  She actually walked over to the video machine the other day pointed at it and announced "Tubbies".  But the big news this month is "DADDY".  She's got Martin wrapped around her finger with that one.

December '98

Although this is Alexandra's 2nd Christmas it's the first one where she has shown any interest.  Last year at 2 months it was a little hard to get much reaction from her.  I tried for the obligatory photo with Santa but that was not an especially memorable event.  Alexandra was really fascinated by Santa until she realised that I was going to be handing her over to this big fat guy with a huge white beard, a silly red suit, and she had no idea who he was!  We did get our picture but I ended up sitting on the armrest with them.  Oh well.

Alexandra has developed a shoe fetish this month.  Any shoe is fair game...on they go and off she goes.  If you're missing any shoes let me know they're probably in my closet, or somewhere else throughout the apartment.
