~The Story Of Spearfinger~

Long ago their was a person, known as Spearfinger, she was one of the worse of all..

Spearfinger was awful.. She was forty feet tall, and she was covered with this rock-like skin that, no weapon could penetrate..

And oh was she bloodthirsty..

She had one long razor sharp, finger, and she would slip up behind you and stab it through your back, pull out your liver, and eat it in one gulp..

She was covered with dried blood and snot, and gore dripped from her teeth..She had razor Sharp Teeth..

She was vicious, and she was hungry she would go to the village of Indian People..

She loved to eat the flesh of young children more than anything..

And to get close to the children she could change her shape..

She could make herself look like anything she saw and when you saw her, she would look just like your friend, or just like one of the village people..

And as you were out picking blackberries or fishing or playing, your friend could disappear, and she would take their place and you'd never know it until it was too late..

One day in a village not far from here, the indian people knew that spearfinger was getting close to them and they were scared..

:What are we gonna do? they cried..Just let her walk in here and eat everybody?..

"Well, i think we ought to fight her." said one brave warrior..And they argued back and forth, "No, not me, I think we ought to run." someone else would say..

So they finally came up with a plan, they would dig a huge pit all the way around the outside of the village and cover it over with branches and trees and bushes, and when she fell into it , then they would try to kill her..

Everyone agreed, and they started digging the pit and helped move the rocks and collecting the bushes..

Now there was a young man, who was really trying to help, he was a little bit clumsy, cause he was really scared..

He was trying to help, and he'd go pull this, and he'd fall down..

He'd run get a big bucket of mud and he'd spill it..

Finally, his father got real aggravated with him and said, "Just Go Over There and Sit."

If you can't do any better than that, just get out of the way." Oh, this really hurt the young boys feelings, cause he was just trying to help..

The boy thought, Those babies over there , nobody's yelling at them, they also are falling down." and he went over, and sat underneath some bushes, and he was very upset..

He thought to himself, "Spearfinger's coming, we all need to help,and nobody even wants to talk to me."

He felt really sorry for himself.. Then he noticed a little bird that was stuck in a honeysuckle vine and couldn't get loose...

The boy was so upset, that without realizing it,he freed the bird from the vine, and gently let it go..

To the boy's surprise the bird didn't fly away.. Instead the bird flew upon his right shoulder and said, "Thank you for helping me, For your kindness i'm gonna tell you a secret about Spearfinger"..

I know where here heart is, said the little bird... The boy exclaimed, she doesn't have a heart, you can't shoot her through the heart because it's all covered with rocks.. Even the strongest warrior can't shoot through that."

"Listen the litle bird said, " The birds follow Spearfinger, and we know all her secrets.. We know where she hides, we know where her heart is, because she doesn't try to eat eat us, we're too small for her to eat...

Look at the tip of her spearfinger, that is where her heart is.. Shoot her there...

The boy was so excited, he ran to his father and yelled , I know where Spearfinger's heart is..

The boy's father angrily said to him, i told you to sit down and be quiet, I don't want to hear anymore from you.. Just be quiet!..

The little boy then ran to his Mother and tied to tell her where Spearfingers heart was, but just as he started telling her, he heard a horrible scream from the forest

It was Spearfinger coming, she was coming really fast and she was really hungry..

Oh, she was screaming, such a shrill scream, and the people all ran and began to hide..

As she approached the village, she fell into the pit, and everyone ran over to the pit and tried to kill her, by throwing rocks at her ..

This did not work, and she was clawing her way up to the top of the pit, the people were scared..

Blood was just foaming from her mouth.. She was nasty , and smelled awful, they knew if she got loose she would kill everybody in the village..

They tried shooting her with bows and arrows, but they didn't even hurt her..

The people than started running and hiding from Spearfinger, knowing that they were all about to be killed..

Now, In this confusion, the little boy remembered what the bird had told him and he ran to a warrior and told him to aim at her spearfinger , that is her heart..

The warrior raised his bow and arrow and aimed straight at Spearfingers, little finger, and shot..

The arrow went right through Spearfingers heart and she fell over dead..

The people were so happy that Spearfinger was dead, they started singing and dancing and from then after, whenever the boy had something to say, all the people listened..

~The old man and the Wolf Clan~

It is said that one day in the beginning of time,when the villages were first built..

a old man came out of the woods, and he went down to the Clans of the Cherokee..

The old man was sick with a cold and had sores all over his body...

He came to the first woman in charge of the first clan, and asked" Would you take me in and make me well?"

The woman looked horrified , and exclaimed "Oh!, you look terrible, we don't know how to make you well".. Go Away!!

The man leaves the first village and goes to another clan of the Cherokee, possibly the blue clan...

As he approaches the village, a woman comes out and starts screaming,"We have children here, go away."

the old man goes to all the villages of the cherokee and it's always the same, he is turned away...

Finally the old man comes to the Wolf Clan of the Cherokee..

The old man is very sick and full of sores all over his body, he approaches a woman of the Wolf clan and asks her "Will you take me in and make me well"...

the woman looks at the old man and feels sorry for him and tells him " I don't know what to do for you,but if you come in, you may lay down on the bed and rest..

The woman tells the old man, that she will do what she can to help make him better...

After the old man has rested for awhile, he tells the woman to go into the forest and get the bark from the cherry tree and bring it back and make tea from it...

The woman does as the old man asks, and he is cured of his cold...

The old man tells the woman , go back into the forest and get some bark from the willow tree, and make it into a poultice and place it on my sores...

the woman does as the old man asks and his sores heal..

The old man does this time after time, telling the woman what to get and how to prepare it, and what it would cure...

After the old man had been completely cured of all his aliments, he got up out of the bed and said to the woman..

Woman since you have so good to me, I have taught you all the cures of the forest.. and from this day forward, you, the woman of the Wolf Clan will be the Doctors of the villages..

This is how the Cherokee People learned how to cure people of all their ailments...
