GREEN BEANS IN MUSHROOM SAUCE

1 lb green beans
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
2 oz butter
4 oz mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup heavy cream (or half and half)

Place greenbeans in a saucepan with the sugar, salt, baking soda and enough water to cover. Simmer gently for about 15 minutes; drain. In a saucepan melt the butter and saute the mushrooms. Add the green beans and stir in the cream. Simmer for 2 minutes. Season to taste with salt & pepper.
