What, a Sweethearts book?
  • by Sakana

an image of the book

Upon my discovery that there was a book about the master race of candies, I was shocked. I mean, they're candies. Little sugary hearts. Why anyone would write an entire book (Okay, so maybe I'm a hypocrite, here I am with this website) about a candy? Imagine my shock at discovering that the author of this book, Barbara Barbieri Mcgrath, had written 12 other books, all of them about candies or snack foods. The first thing I thought after discovering this was that I wanted a job like that too. I mean....FOOD!

After thinking about it for a while, though, I realized that this was not a good job at all. I mean, imagine writing inane children's books about counting and eating tiny foods. That's your job. I can't imagine that this what our friend Barbara wanted to do with her life. I can picture her as a little girl writing stories with an overactive imagination, being happy and creative, writing tales of high adventure, imagining that one day she'd write the great American novel. I can see her now, years later, crying over her latest work about counting Lucky Charms marshmallows. She has many wonderful story ideas, and she'seven written that novel of hers, but noone will publish it because she writes these little books about food and candies.

I worry about Barbara Barbieri Mcgrath.
