official books
The Cure: Ten Imaginary Years - by Barbarian, Steve Sutherland, and Robert Smith - Fiction Books and Zomba Books (1988) - ISBN 0-946391-87-4 - the official cure biography of the first ten years of the cure. contains great pictures and interviews with bandmembers. a must have. there was a previous attempt to get the next ten years in a book but that idea has been scrapped. look for something in winter 1999(tentative as always!) for some sort of official new book.
Cure: Wish - proofread by Robert Smith - Fiction Songs (1992) - contains music sheets of the wish album as well as the lyrics to the songs and rare photos with art by parched art. The Cure: Swing Tour '96 - by The Cure - Hill Shorter LTD. - tour book for the tour supporting Wild Mood Swings with art by andy vella.
unofficial books
Cure - by Immaginazzioni - Arcanaeditrice (1988) - ISBN 8885859011 - chronology of the cure and discography in italian with excellent old photos, my favourite being robert standing on a street in london with his guitar case open on the sidewalk and playing for money.
The Cure: Discographie Illustree - by Philippe Raymond and Jean-Francois Moreau - Voodoo Smile (1991) - ISBN 2950525903 - taken from a letter by the authors (found in the actual book itself, signed and everything by the authors) to omnibus press: "exhaustive discography of more than 300 products"..."we show the u.k. releases at first and then all the records from other countries." it also includes some interesting photos and is in french - i am unsure as to whether this book was actually published or not. obviously, it came before daren butler's book but it was butler's book that was published with omnibus press. if anyone has any more information about this book, please e-mail me : )
The Cure: Visual Documentary - by Dave Thompson and Jo-Ann Greene - Omnibus Press (1993) - ISBN 0711930155 - an updated edition of the one published in 1988 and includes an illustrated biography, quotes from interviews, album and concert reviews, comprehensive discography and gig listing. lots of pictures and very good.
The Cure On Record - by Daren Butler - Omnibus Press (1995) - ISBN 07111938679 - contains full colour photos of the very rarest cure pressings and sleeves with information to go along with. it's a must have for any cure fan...collector or not. look for an updated version later in 1999
Catch: Robert Smith and The Cure - by Daniel Patton - The Dunce Directive (1997) - ISBN 0952206811 - the most recent of unofficial (and undesirable?) cure books that includes the madness, passion, faith, and desire involved with being robert smith and being in the cure. more words than pictures and i found it to give a pretty bleak view on the band but that could just be me...anyways, be careful.
The Cure: A Short History - by Bruna Zarini and Giuseppe Cavazzoni - Sonic Book (1998) - ISBN 8872264413 - includes a cd of 'a cult hero' and 'i dig you' - contains cure lyrics in english and italian, complete discography from 77-87, and a brief history of the cure - this is a re-print of the former book that originally came with a 3" disc and was larger and pink.
