A witch or wizard that is born to Muggle parents (see Muggle), but still has the ability to preform magic. Muggle-borns often have no knowledge of the wizarding world until they are asked to attend a wizarding school to develop their un-known skills.
A witch or wizard who is born from wizarding parents, and who comes from a long line of purely magical people. These witches and wizards know about the magical world from the day they are born, and grow up to think magical and spells are the norm.
An insulting term, referring to a Muggle-born witch or wizard. Pure-bloods often discriminate against Muggle-borns, and calling them 'Mud-blood' implies that their blood is 'dirty', or contaminated with that of Muggles.
The opposite of a Muggle-born witch or wizard, a Squib is a person born to a pure-blood family but who possess little or no ability to preform magic. Squibs can go to school to learn to develop their magical skills.
