Medical Students as Health and Environmental Promoters

by Salma Galal, M.D.

Conditions

The first three years of this experience was based on voluntarism. The challenges faced were to start without any support neither for transportation nor administration.

The students themselves were volunteers. They had to prepare and make all administrative paperwork and permissions as the SHE Group had no helping personnel or monetary resources. They even paid for small gifts for distinguished pupils in their health education sessions.

As for transportation, it has been decided to connect the educational activities with their regular visits to their homes / parents. They had to look for a volunteering person to take over the health educational activities during their absence. The first question the student had to pose for herself was, how much time she can afford for this activity on a regular basis and for how long.
