When
All’s Been Said (WABS) first came to be in 1998 - in a shitty
ass house in north Dartmouth NS, lovingly referred to as the “Hellhole”.
The seeds, however, were planted long before, between the dusty asphalt
streets of the rural NS towns that raised the band and the harsh realities
that life reveals along the way. A place stifled and misunderstood,
witness to innocence lost, relationships suffering, respect denied,
hate tolerated, ignorance applauded, the planet’s demise and promises
broken. And then there was the music. An escape, a release, a community.
A place where existence is tangible, can be heard, felt and shared.
The beginning saw just Crowther on vocals and guitar and Belanger on
drums. The rest of the puzzle was put in place with the addition of
Matt Lefort on Bass and Gibboney contributing guitar and vocals to the
mix. Although a good fit, Lefort left the band after two years of hard
service to travel and tie the knot. Timing was perfect and Brown has
been laying down sick WABS bass line ever since.
Throughout
their career, WABBS has shared the stage with many notable bands, including:
Closet Monster, Hope, Frenzal Rhomb, Chixdiggit, Diesel Boy, System
Shit, Bad Luck #13 and DOA. Additionally there were many shows with
local Halifax acts, including acclaimed bands The Heelwalkers, Slitch,
The McFaddens and The Dean Malenkos, who were recently signed to California’s
Aggravated Records. Choosing to walk another path, When All’s
Been Said are proud to adhere to the historic DIY ethic, prevalent in
the punk scene. Together they formed Hellhole Records to release their
own recordings independently and to control the direction of the band
and the label. Read Between the Lies was released on the East Coast
in the Fall of 2002. Built on the limited 2000 release of their demo
Starting Point, the album showcases tight riffs, driving beats and sometimes
insightful, sometimes inciting lyrics. As Brown says, “If you
want something done right, you have to do it yourself.” They did
however receive help recording the effort from none other than J. Lapoint,
founding member of North of America, in his home based, seaside studio,
Audio Projects.
Choosing
to make a change, WABS decided shortly after the release of their CD
to relocate the band to Calgary Alberta - bringing them easier access
to Western audiences above and below the border. Spending the winter
tightening their sound, WABS are planning to pack the summer months
with shows and the eventual Western release of Read Between the Lies.
Stay tuned as they show the West how the best of the East Coast rock!
