Past Projects

School Computers - The Foundation collected 62 computers from private donors and from a bank in Milford, CT. The Girl Scouts of Milford, lead by Mrs. Jeannette Lasagna (a Petty Officer in the US Navy Reserves,) headed up the project. The computers were sent to the school in Pogorzel, and to many students who are interested in computer science. This project took one and a half years to accomplish. The Foundation spent $5,000 transporting the computers to Pogorzel. The families and children were so grateful for the opportunity to have computers for use both at school and at home. Most families who received computers would never have been able to afford one on their own.

School Playground - $2000 was needed for our project to built a playground for the school in Pogorzel. The children are already enjoying it on a daily basis. They are very happy to have their first playground ever. Thank you to all our donors who helped to make this possible!

Medical Project 2002 - During this 4-week program, 700 children and their families were assessed and treated for head lice, scabies, acne, yeast infection and other disorders. After 30 years of struggle with head lice, the problem was eradicated. Classes were provided on dental hygiene, smoking, sexual development and birth control methods.

Founder, Elzbieta Zaremba-Swat, checks a child for head lice. A local nurse, who was the mother of one of the students, volunteered to help the medical team. Mrs. Danuta Janecka, the chief of operating rooms in the hospital in Bialystok, Poland, took her vacation time to join our medical team.

Landscape Project - In 1999, a new school was finally built to replace the unheated wooden barrack. The old school had no halls, inside bathrooms or a playground. The Foundation provided money for a landscaping project. Trees and bushes were planted by the Foundation founders, teachers and local officials. The school still needs a track and soccer field.

Warsaw Trip - With the cooperation of Polish volunteers (director, teachers, parents and children of the Elementary School #10/High School #27 in Warsaw, Poland) 15 children from the school in Pogorzel were invited to take a three-day trip (June 2-6, 2003) to the capital of Poland: Warszawa. Good food and a lot of attractions were provided, and received with great appreciation. Visit our photo gallery to see pictures of the trip!
