JOEY SAYS GOODBYE
| October 15, 2001 - Los Angeles, CA |
After four issues of Joey Magazine, two years of JOEY.com, several TV
appearances, loads of positive press, hundreds of articles, thousands of photos
& countless fans...JOEY is calling it quits.
It is with a reluctant and heavy heart that we make this announcement. Our
founder and Editor-in-Chief Jerry Dunn, after much debate, has decided to close
up shop. Despite the struggles, it has been a pleasure and honor serving the
young gay community locally and abroad. We truly wish thingscould continue and
grow.
Despite the great response and growth of the recently redone JOEY.com site, the
main cause for this decision is lack of advertising: both in print and online.
Sadly, a lot of the businesses that gay youth love and patronize don't even
recognize "gay youth" as a legitimate or significant market, and
advertising is what pays the bills. Though we at JOEY would love to prove these
companies wrong—and were attempting to do so—we simply cannot continue
financially. The current economic climate is also not helping things either.
Many companies have been forced to cut spending and the first thing to go is
advertising dollars. The combination of this and other small factors have all
contributed to this situation.
We hope you all have enjoyed Joey Magazine and JOEY.com over the past couple
years, and we hope they have influenced you in a positive way.
The time is coming soon when companies will be forced to accept and realize the
relevance of gay youth in America and abroad.... |
