Settled on a small farm at Bulla Bulla which later changed its name to Monteagle in Young distcrict NSW. As well as his farm work, Isacc used to take wheat intot he mill for gristing and bring back flour etc. He had taken a load of wheat to the mill on 22 Dec 1877 and was returning home when (it is surmised) he went to sleep, fell off the spring cart and the wheel ran over his neck killing him - he was 33 years old.
In Isaac's coat pocket was found a glass sugar basin which he had purchased in town as a present for Mary Ann. The family treasured it for years.
Mary Ann (Fowler) Pereira now with 4 young children to care for had to earn extra money as well as work the farm. She would load up the spring cart with linen and ddress materials and travel around the outlying farms selling some to the womenfolk. The shops would let Mary Ann buy at cost which enabled her to re-sell at a small profit. Many time Mary Ann couldn't get home till well after dark and when the country was lashed with heavy thunderstorms the creek she had to drive across would be flooded and she would have to wait until it went down before she could cross.
Her little daughter Sophia who was caring for her brothers used to get very frightened when it stormed, knowing her mother couldn't get home. Sophia was only about 8 years old.
Mary Ann Fowler died on 26 Feb 1925. She married Isaac Pereira on 23 Nov 1868.
