The history of Henry Clay Chapter NSDAR began on June 7, 1958, at the home of the organizing regent, Mabel Thompson Buck, in Arlington, Virginia.  There were twelve charter members.  Because Mabel Buck greatly admired Henry Clay, who was born during the Revolution on April 12, 1777, in Hanover County, Virginia, as a remarkable achiever, she proposed his name in the expectation that the chapter would accomplish much.  On October 15, 1958, the Henry Clay Chapter NSDAR was confirmed as a chapter to meet in Annandale, Virginia.
