Guild Charter

Purpose

The Herbal Guild of Meridies shall promote, educate and provide information in the cultivation, history and utilization of herbs. Areas to be explored by the Guild include, but are not limited to:

  • Culinary Uses

  • Cosmetics

  • Medicinal

  • Dye Stocks

Guild members interested may attain 3 levels of experience. Participation in the ranking system is on a voluntary basis and a rank in the Guild is not a requirement for membership nor bears any precedence.

  • Novice Any person showing an interest becomes a novice upon joining the Guild.

  • Craftsman  A person who demonstrates a working knowledge of the cultivation of herbs and and their use prior to 1600. A craftsman should be able to identify and show a knowledge of 15 herbs from 3 of the above categories.

  • Expert  A person who is not only a craftsman, but is experienced and knowledgeable enough to teach herbal classes. An expert should have knowledge of at least 24 herbs, at least 6 from each of the 4 named categories.

Guild members will meet at local events throughout the Kingdom as well as at regional or Kingdom Arts and Sciences Faire as permitted. Herbal products with recipes or papers on herbal works such as cultivation may be submitted. Members who wish to do so may be considered for rank at any official Guild meeting. Members who have attained the level of Craftsman or above will critique or panel members and recommend a rank. Members of the Order of the Laurel and the Companions of the Velvet Owl will be invited to help panel until there are sufficient number of Guild members at Craftsman level to adequately panel submissions. The panel will be made up of at least 3 people.

 

Officers

Steward The Steward is the acting head of the Guild. This member will be responsible for organizing guild meetings and sponsored activities. The office will maintain all records and correspondence for the Guild including all reporting duties.

Chronicler The Chronicler is responsible for the Guild newsletter.

Reeve The Guild Reeve is responsible for all monies relating to the Guild and all bookkeeping and reporting duties.
