Band History:
September 2000
Darren and Mark decide to start a band. Something different, like grunge/punk or rap/opera. They walked around looking for a drummer but couldn't find any. They even put up notices in music stores and still found none. Maybe it was cause of their age, or probably because they forgot to put a phone number or contact details on the notices.
January - June 2001
Yeah....still looking
June 2001
Mark and Darren decide to become a techno band cause they were sick of looking for a drummer.
July 2001
Donny joins band (yay!). Now we are complete. No need for techno.
August 2001
First practice. It was awesome. Donny's drumming was equally awesome. We used a temporary name of Fix My Shoe. Practice was in Mark's garage. First song played together was Just Ace by Grinspoon. We went through it first time perfectly, we were gobsmacked. The practice actually turned out a lot better than we expected & we are all excited about the next practice.
December 2001
Second practice. It was way better. Darren got a new big amp & we now practice at Marks Church. Decide on Hesplin as a name cause we got teased with the other name. The word Hesplin doesn't actually mean anything, so don't bother looking it up, it just sounds good. We also recorded 'Puppet' and 'Asylum Home' on Donny's little tape recorder.
January 2002
After long Christmas break & time to think of improvements, the 3rd practice was SICK! Maybe cause we had a better place to practice than the big Church. The songs were very tight, but we all decided to shift focus and play original songs.
February 2002
Some feedback at last. Thanks to the people who took the time to give us some constructive criticism and for understanding that our recordings aren't professional (the songs were recorded on a video camera the first time and a little tape recorder the second).
March 2002
Brief practice for Mark's exam. We practiced "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder. It had really cool bass solos to show off Marks skill. It was also a good change of pace from the usual loudness.
April 2002
Marks performance at school went well. Donny ended up playing drums for everyone elses performance & Darren had a sleep. It was our first performance together and was heaps of fun.
April 2002
Band practice no.4 was at an actual rehearsal studio (yeah, we seem to find a new place every practice), but this is definately the best. We had the additions of microphones and a PA, which we could only dream about prior to this practice. In regards to the music, we seem to have become heavier and developed our own thang. Two new songs were tested and turned out great, with two songs completed (Puppet & Asylum Home) and three in development. Darren and Mark have tons of other originals in the works until ready for Donny to bring'em home.
May 2002
If you are wondering why there is such a long time period between practices, it is because it is Mark and Darren's HSC year. Meaning that band practices are about as frequent as the Olympics. In the mean time though, Darren and Mark are working on original songs in their spare time. We also learned where our weaknesses were at our last practice and we are each working hard to perfect ourselves for next practice.
June 2002
June was a pretty quiet month, we have each been practising for endless hours on our own instruments at home. There have been discussions of getting a manager for the band. Todd, a friend from school, brought up the idea of becoming our band manager after hearing 'Puppet' and a few other originals. Yeah, we laughed at first, but it was actually a really good idea. The MP3s have been removed from the website, so anyone who got copies are very lucky. The reason for this is that we are not ready to let the public listen to our originals until they are perfected. We would also like to use better recording equipment next time. Darren has promised that lyrics will be included next time, so if you liked the sound of the songs, stay tuned for some MP3's later on. We will however, include cover songs and original demos for all your headbanging needs.
