Moving on to David's Sculpture

David's lifecast was made in much the same way as Victoria's. I didn't take photos of that process, but if you want, use the photos of Victoria and imagine it's David's head peeking out of the garbage bag instead of Victoria's. And despite the fact that he'd seen Victoria escape unscathed, David wasn't any more comfortable with the process than she was. So imagine that David has the same worried expression on his face that Victoria had, and you've got the complete picture.

Once David's lifecast was done it was time to start working on his bust. As some of you may know, I'm a programmer by trade. Programmers are a type of engineer, and engineers like to reuse existing components if possible. So I used Victoria's sculpture as a base when I began David's.

I started by removing the front portion of the sculpture, which I then replaced with a clay positive of David's face. As with the first sculpture, this positive was made by pressing clay into the silicone negative made from the original lifecast.

First I had to remove Victoria's face from the sculpture so that I had a place to put David's.

These things must be done delicately.

With great care I removed the front portion of the sculpture.

Then I attached the impression of David's face to the sculpture.

You can barely see the seam!

Here is the leftover piece, which I soon mashed into another shape while working on the second bust.
