INFORMATION ABOUT HEWAR
INTRODUCTION | |||||||||||||||||||
The association HEWAR (cry of distress) is a non-political independent association and founded by Kurds from Iraq living in The Netherlands in January 1996. The statutes of HEWAR were drawn up by a notary at this time. Chairman and driving force behind this association is Mr. Z. Amedi. In Iraqi-Kurdistan Mr. Amedi was a teacher and a poet, and was for some time a presenter on the Kurdish cultural television program.
As laid down in the statutes, the main purpose of HEWAR is to give material assistance to the poor and disabled Kurds in Iraqi-Kurdistan.
The association HEWAR wants to achieve this by : * organising collections, * supplying school necessities, medicines and clothing, etc. * improving social contacts between Kurds and non-Kurds., * giving accurate information about the situation in Iraqi-Kurdistan. |
|||||||||||||||||||
There are also two sister organisations, which have the same name, one in Iraqi-Kurdistan and the other in Norway.
WORKING PROCEDURE | |||||||||||||||||||
The local branch of HEWAR in Iraqi-Kurdistan assesses the needs and priorities in their area and draws up a budget, together with the Kurdish authorities. This is then sent to HEWAR in the Netherlands. When a project has been realised, pictures and a video tape are made showing the completion of the project. All bills and the final account are then handed to the financial contributors. HEWAR guarantees that all money and other contributions arrive at their intended destinations, and that nothing goes to the armed struggle for independence of the Kurds. |
