1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible

The ’57 Chevy has been more things to more people than any car since the Model T Ford. Neither too large nor too small, too light nor too heavy, too cheap nor expensive, it was the most popular car in the world when it was new and is still one of the few automotive icons that’s a revered classic to street-rodders, drag racers, and restorers alike.

In a straight line, the old ’57 fuelie zips 0-60 mph in less than 8 seconds and will run about 120 mph. In 1957, this chevy is considered the best-handling car in America. Thanks to soft spring rates, tiny shock absorbers, and narrow bias-ply tires, however, a stock ’57 plows through the corners.

Drum brakes that were considered inadequate even by 1957 standards and a steering box with 4.5 turns lock to lock don’t help.
