Several years ago, when I was shopping for my girls, I came across these little beauties - they reminded me so much of Dawn dolls. Since then, I started collecting Starr Model Agency dolls and Dawn dolls all over again. Most of what you will see here on my site is just the first issue of the dolls in the original outfits - no variations.
Just about all of them are gifts from my husband. Many times he would come home with a new Starr Doll for me instead of giving me flowers. This is really cool because flowers die, the cat eats them or knocks them over, and then that's it. My favorites are Taylor and Toya. One complete line (before Jade was ever issued) that I'm really glad to have MIB is the Country Western Collection - thanks to my husband and a previous contact with the company.
The Starr Model Agency Dolls were made by JPI (Justin Products, Inc.). The last of these were distributed by Jakks Pacific. I don't know if Jakks intends to keep up production of these dolls, but they did issue the last of the Fairy Tale Collection under their own name. The original dolls include Starr, Amber, Misty, Taylor, Toya, and Dawn. Later Jade was introduced. Also, they made male friends that were included as princes in the Fairy Tale collection.
These dolls have been called "The Dawns of the 90's". Their bodies are made quite similar with the slanted waistline, poseable legs, general body shape, and height. Their arms are shaped differently and can be posed in more positions than Dawn's. Unfortunately, they don't have rooted eyelashes. I have always thought that this was a very neat feature about Dawn. Here are some other rather interesting facts about these dolls that show the similarity between Starr and Dawn:
