Highland School of Technology

 

Highland School of Technology is a magnet school in Gastonia, NC.  It has grades 9-12 and is a four-year high school with 500 to 600 students.

 

Highland has four academies-- Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, Health Sciences and Biomedical-Technology, Communication and Information Technology, and Finance. Our school offers a rigorous and relevant curriculum in technology education that cannot be found anywhere else in North Carolina. After graduation, students will be able to integrate effectively in a technologically advanced workforce. Eligible students from all over Gaston County are chosen to attend Highland by a lottery system.

Each student enters the school as a member of one of the academies. Within each academy there are various pathways available for the students.

Class sizes at Highland School of Technology do not exceed 24. Each academic and workforce development education classroom has no less than 7 computers and 2 printers for student and teacher use. All computers are connected to a main server and each student and teacher has his/her own password and e-mail address. Internet use is highly recommended in each course curriculum.

Students are able to participate in a number of school clubs and functions but a real emphasis is placed on the Vocational Clubs such as HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and TSA (Technology Student Association). Students are encouraged to participate in regional, state and national competitive events sponsored by these organizations.
