The Youth Tutoring Program is an after-school educational enrichment program for at-risk elementary, middle, and high school students who live in six low-income public housing communities in Seattle.
Begun in 1991 as a partnership with the Seattle Housing Authority, the tutoring centers provide youth with a safe, positive, and stimulating environment to explore learning and experience academic success.
Volunteers are the heart of the program. They work with students individually or in small groups and offer friendship, encouragement and guidance as well as tutoring.
The Tutoring centers provide a stimulating environment where students are able to:
* Build skills in reading and math.
* Get help with homework.
* Work with caring adults whose special help and
encouragement builds self-esteem and motivates
them to succeed.
