Ch.2

Oi, minna, Middi Une is in here. I just thought I'd tell you, instead
of you thinking it was talking about LADY UNE. Big difference.

Relena’s blue eyes darted around the hallway as she searched for
Heero. That guy had a knack for popping up and scaring the hell out
of you.
"You know Trowa Barton broke up with Une-sama right?"
My eyes got big and I grabbed her arm.
"You’re kidding!" I gasped. YES! The boy of my dreams is *finally*
single again! Someone up there loves me.
"And" Relena trailed off, eyes wandering again.
"AND WHAT?!?!?" I shouted, causing a few people to look over at me.
"I heard from Catherine that he has a HUGE crush on someone else"

I didn’t know I could get so happy all at once.
Relena grabbed my arms and stopped my victory dance, telling me it
was a huge secret and I couldn’t tell ANYONE.
"Me? Never!" I said, pulling my books out of my open locker.
"Arigreto Hilde-chan, I thought you might like to know that"
"Yeah, I do. But, uh, why couldn’t you tell me that in front of Duo
and Heero?"
Relena opened her mouth to reply, but shut it and looked away.
"We’re tomodachi’s right?"

"Yeah, why?"
Relena played with the him of her uniform skirt.
"Then you’ll understand why I can’t tell you why?"
I looked at her and blinked, what was this? Relena Darlian KEEPING a
secret?
"I would tell you, and I want too, but Duo’s my friend too, and I
can’t do that to him."
"Nani? Do what to him?"
She just looked away from me and shrugged.
"Don’t worry about it. Come on, let’s go to class ne?"
"Hai, ok."
Relena smiled brightly and pulled me toward our first hour.

While sitting in third hour, studding for a vocabulary test, Duo sat
down in the desk in front of me and asked if we could study together.
"Sure." I said, shrugging.
Duo pulled out his list and started to read off the words. I wasn’t
really paying attention, so when he waved a hand in front of my face
I jumped and batted it away.
"You’re out there, want to tell me what’s up?"
"Nothing." I said, sighing.
"Something’s up, or else you wouldn’t be all moppy."
"Well, it’s Relena."
"Did you guys have a fight?"
"No, she’s just acting different today."
Duo sat down the list and folded his arms on my desk, laying his head
on them.

"How so?"
Damn! He looked so cute when he did that!
"Um, well, I know it sounds stupid, but-"
"Don’t worry about it, just tell me."
"She won’t tell me something."
"A good something or a bad something?"
"It’s a secret."
"Oh, well maybe it’s better that she keep it a secret."
"Yeah, maybe so."
I leaned my arms on the desk and sighed loudly.
"I just, it makes me feel like SHE feels like she can’t trust me."
"This is really bothering you isn’t it?"
I nodded and looked at him, noting to myself that I would love to
play with his hair.
"Well, why don’t you come to the mall with me after school?"
I blinked at him.
"But how would we get there? It’s across town!"
Duo winked at me, smiling broadly.
"I’m Shinigami! I have connections."
Did he just call himself the God of Death? That’s too cute!
"Besides, Duo said, ruffling my hair, you’e too cute to be
unhappy."

I blushed, and smiled.

"MAAAAATTTTEEEEEEEEE!"

Dorothy Catalonia dashed up beside me and grabbed my arm.
"Hilde! Are you going to the mall with Duo after school today?"
I stopped jogging and nodded at her. Jeeze, for someone that was on
the track team she couldn"t run very fast, or for very long.
"Maska!"
I blinked at her.
"Huh?"
"Everyone’s talking about it! You, my friend, have a *date* with Duo
Maxwell!"
"No no noooo, Duo’s just taking me cause I’m down. He’s being nice."
"Well explain that to the entire school, because they have a
different view on it."
I glared at Dorothy and yanked my arm out of her grasp.
"That’s stupid! I dont even know Duo well enough to go out with him!"
I was yelling by now, and the entire gym class was starring at me.
Relena walked up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I um, told everyone that Hilde-san." She said.
"Why?" I asked, shocked. Screw her being my best friend; I hate her
right now. Just when I had the slightest chance with Trowa!
"I thought you might get a hint."

"A hint for what??!?!?!?" I screamed.
"I don’t know, maybe that Trowa’s not the only guy in the world!"
Relena brushed tears away, and clinched her hands by her side.
"I know that Relena!" I yelled, dashing away and into the school
building. The air was cool on my bare legs and I shivered, tears
falling down my face.
Why did Relena have to do that? It’s not like I like Duo or anything!
"Hey, are you ok?"
I looked up and starred into a deep pair of emerald eyes.
"Tr-Tro-Trowa!"
