Things I REALLY, REALLY hate

Hi! I'm Tony. I live in Austin, Texas, which is right on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. The natural beauty of this area and the friendliness of the people I've met have kept me living here most of my life.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois and raised in the Midwest, mostly in the Chicago area. However, I've always considered myself to be a Texan by matter of conception. That's a long story, though, and probably not of interest to you. If it does interest you, email me and I'll tell you alllllllll about it. *grin* I like to think that I've had a fairly typical upbringing, and that what I do now would make my mother and deceased father proud of me. I don't consider myself to be a "successful" person at the present time (although some others might), but I'm working to overcome the setbacks which have taken place in my life. I feel confident that I'll overcome at least some of these shortcomings soon. (There will be more to come about my personal background soon.)

(There will be new pages at my site soon about my family & genealogy.) I have a large extended family in the Chicago area, and relatives scattered from California to New York to Florida and many places in between. The last maternal family reunion I was able to attend brought together well over 50 members of my family through 4 generations!

I have a sister and her husband living in the Chicago area, near my Mom. My sister has one son & his family living nearby, and another son & family living on the East Coast. I have three brothers and their families (seven nieces and nephews) living in the Dallas/North Texas area, one brother and his family (two nephews, as well as a nephew and niece from a previous marriage who live with his deceased ex-wife's husband in a Chicago suburb) near Chicago, but pretty far away from my Mom. [Are you confused now? *L*]

My son lives with his wife, son and daughter about 20 miles north of me. My daughter, her husband and their four sons live about 12 miles away in the opposite direction. The children range in age from 18 years old to 9. I don't see them often enough, but always enjoy the times we get to spend together.

I enjoy walking and bowling. I do most of my own home repairs, some auto repairs and maintenance, and really enjoy working with computers and their peripherals, both reconfiguring them and using them for other fun things, such as writing this page for the WWW. I used to play a LOT of computer-based video games and have dabbled a little bit with programming. In addition, I have both Playstation and X-Box video consoles & games.

I am in a bowling league at work. I frequently practice bowling during my lunch break, as there is a bowling alley near my office. (Did I mention I like bowling? *grin*) This past summer my team finished first in our league, and did very well in most individual & team categories. We hope to do as well or better this Fall. Some might consider this to be a near-miracle due to the medical problems I had in the past. I like to think that it's just due to the skill, tenacity and stubbornness of our team. *LOL* (Believe me, there's enough stubbornness in us for a much larger group!)

I've played chess, checkers, many card & board games, various forms of billiards and pool, and enjoyed many other sports and leisure activities. I have enjoyed fishing and camping trips, and used to go hunting for recreation many eons ago. I've enjoyed all of these things a great deal, but haven't been able to make time for most of them recently. I hope to be able to change that soon. :^(

One other thing that I really REALLY like is CHOCOLATE in most all of its' forms,
but especially &s!!

Unfortunately, my doctors tell me that it isn't good for me, so I've had to cut back considerably on my intake of these sweets. :^(

About Friendships

My friends are all very special to me. A friendship with another is something that I feel needs to be nurtured, cherished and built upon. I cling tenaciously to the friendships I feel are worth the effort (and I feel that way about nearly all of mine). There will always be differences between people, but that's what makes us human. Life would be pretty boring if we were all the same. As long as the friendship is of value to both parties, differences can be be resolved through communication and discussion. Sometimes the only resolution is to agree that we disagree on something. If one party has been wronged by another, I feel they are due an apology ... but forgiveness is also necessary, and once a wrong has been forgiven it should be forgotten. Frequently one will feel they have been wronged, but it will be an inadvertent act by the other or a simple misunderstanding of motive. In these cases, it is much easier to forgive and forget. At times forgiveness and second, third and fourth chances (or more) are necessary. Trust, however, is something that once lost is hard (if not impossible) to regain (this is true in any relationship). I try to be both trusting and trustworthy, but find it difficult at times. I believe in truth and honesty, but try to be tactful in how truthful I am. (It isn't nice to say something that hurts someone else, just because it's true) I don't always succeed at this. This and other faults which I have I hope would be pointed out to me by a true friend, so that I might be given the chance to correct them.

*climbs down off the soapbox* I think I've said my piece clearly enough to be understood, and hope that my friends can see my viewpoint. If you don't understand or have questions, I hope you will ask me.

In music, my tastes run from classical to rock-and-roll to Country & Western and a lot of others. About the only types that don't give me enjoyment are heavy metal, most rap and some opera as well as many of the new, smash-everything-in-sight "performances" that are being presented nowadays (you know the types I mean).

Some things I don't like include canned peas (a long story), rude and inconsiderate people, and poor service in a restaurant (does anyone?). I like to see snow, but don't enjoy being in the cold as much as I used to.

Things I really HATE include dishonesty, disloyalty and deliberate deceit in all its' many forms. I hate having others tell me one thing and tell another person something else about the same subject ... especially when it gets back to me later (even more if the subject is ME).

I hope this has given you a little insight into what makes me tick ... as well as what ticks me off. I think it shows, in a lot of ways, that in reality I'm not much different from the average person raised in my era. I'm sure there are many more things I'd have liked to say but have let them slip my mind while I was creating this. As I think of them, I'll add them later. If you're interested, check back from time to time.

Okay, here's some of the latest news. My Dad passed away in May, 2003. I miss him! Sure wish he was here again ... but I feel sure that I'll see him one day in the not-too-distant future. At least he isn't in pain any more. I'm sure glad I went to see him for his 80th birthday before he left us.

This is as far as I can update things for now.

As they say, "Stay tuned for further developments."

If you have comments or questions, please email me.
