General Notes:
Possibly from Adams, Jefferson Co. (1830 census), but there isn't one for 1840. I've ruled out Lyme and Brownville
My biggest lead, there is an Amos Hill on an 1855 map of the town of Rodman, living in the SE section of Rodman known as Tremaine's Corners (today would be NYS Rt 177). His neighbor was Solomon Tremain,e the father of his step-mother, Cynthia. In 1864 the owner of the property was Jared Hill, brother of Amos. Hist Assoc of S. Jeff
The problem with this info is that the Hills Book lists James son Amos as being born 1812 and marrying a Shaw woman. This could be in error though since it is such a big book of Hill listings.
The lead I am also following to make this information true is the census of 1850 for Jefferson Co. Hill James 67 m Hill Cynthia 58 f Hill William 10 m This 10 year old William could be my Great Grandfather William who was born 1840 living with his grandparents. This is the time frame that Amos was said to be living in Canada, so maybe he stayed behind to help his grandparents.
