Hornets end season on a good note |
Robert Perry led all scorers with 24 points as the Hornets finished out their 2001-02 regular season with a win over Webb High, 88-80. Perry added 9 rebounds and Anthony Ifedi was second in scoring with 14 points. The Hornets held a large lead for much of the game but Webb made a late run to cut it to eight. This was the final regular season home game for Hillside's two seniors: Tim Holmes and Shelton Jones. We wish them well in all their future aspirations and plans. Look for the Hornets in the Five County Tournament that will be held at DSA's gymnasium. |

Perry named Player of the Year |
Hillside junior Robert Perry was name the Five County Conference Player of the Year by the coaches and staff of the conference's schools, on Saturday. The vote was not even close Perry blew away the only other vote getters in UNC recruit, David Noel of Southern and NC State recruit, Adam Simons of Burlington Williams. Along with Perry, Hillside swingmen Anthony Ifedi and Kevin Sumner were placed on the All Conference squad. The future looks bright for the Hornets, as each of these award winning players will return in the 2002-03 season. |

Not pretty, but it's a win |
Robert Perry led all scores with 26 as the Hornets barely beat the Bucs of Bartlett Yancey, 71-60. The Bucs led almost the whole game, until the Hornets forced overtime with time winding down. The surprise deficit proved a difficult task for the Hornets, but the best team truly won as the Hornets true game showed through late in the fourth quarter. The back and forth game was a good test for the Hornets who will face either Southern Alamance or Burlington Williams, who are both tough teams. The game is Thursday at DSA. |

Hillside's run ends with loss to Williams |
Adam Simons scored 21 points and Kendrick Mebane had 16 as Williams (21-5) survived another close semifinal against Hillside (11-10), clinching a first-round home game for next week’s state 3-A playoffs. The Bulldogs trailed 40-38 going into the fourth but held the Hornets scoreless for a 2:30 stretch while moving in front 47-42. Hillside didn’t lead again, but kept it within three points in the last three minutes. Bobby Perry (20 points, 11 rebounds) hit two free throws with 10 seconds left, bringing Hillside within 56-55, but reserve guard Brett Smith answered with two free throws for Williams at the other end. Perry then missed on a last-second shot. Read more... |
