Chris and Gill came to Broome for a few days, and so it was good to catch up - although check out Chris with no beard!

When Judy had left for home I set off down the West Coast of WA. This is Eighty Mile Beach - and it really does stretch eighty miles. To get to the beach you have to go down a 10km dirt track. Poor old 'Dianna'. When I arrived I realised that one of the hatches on the outside was missing. The hinges had been shaken so much on the road that the door had fallen off! I asked the groundsman if anyone was going back along the road that day? Withing 20 minutes he was back with the hatch door and the man in the next caravan had the door back on 'Dianna' in no time! Luckily nothing had fallen out on the way. Eighty Mile Beach is a great fishing destination. I had a go off the beach and managed to catch five small Salmon, which I threw back in. When I got back to 'Dianna' I told my neighbours about my catch and they were shocked that I had thrown back what they called 'Pan sized fish'
Some of you may be familier with the true story of Red Dog...Anyway if you are not - He was a dog that was adopted by the miners in Dampier. He used to hitch rides all over WA, and was welcomed by people all over the state who would feed him when he showed up at their door. The miners in Dampier made Red Dog a member of the union and he even had his own bank account to pay for vet's bills etc. Red Dog always rode in the seat behind the driver on the buses that took the miners to and from the mine... Anyway after many years of travelling the state he was found poisoned and had to be put down. Anyway, this is the statue of Red Dog in Dampier. Unfortunately when I got to Dampier as you can see someone had dressed him in the local football colours!

WA is famous for its wild flowers at this time of the year. This is the Sturt Desert Pea, which is absolutly fabulous. You can see vast drifts of these across the hill sides and on the side of the road.

I spent a wonderful week in Exmouth, which is the home of Ningaloo Marine Park. The reef is just off the beach and is said to be as stunning as the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland. This is Turquoise Bay within the Ningaloo National Park - not a bad place to spend a couple of hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon!
