Sh'mot 20:1-2 Then G-d spoke all these words, saying, "I am the L-RD your G-d, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
The corresponding letter to this chapter is Resh - wickedness; the wicked.
The following verses teach us what we are to do to keep from wickedness: The moral implications of the law are still a good guideline. Remember this was presented to Israel as a nation.
As you may know there are actually 613 laws. The human body is composed of bones and ligaments. There are 248 laws that are considered positive and are represented by bones. There are 365 laws that are negative and are represented by ligaments. Who do they represent? These of course points to our Messiah who fulfilled the law while in the flesh. He was without fault. Yeshua HaMashiach who was, is, and always will be "THE W-RD" that became flesh and tabernacled (dwelt) among us. (John 1:14)
1 John 3:5-12 And you know that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is NO SIN. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. Little children, let no one deceive you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The Son of G-d appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of G-d practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of G-d. By this the children of G-d and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of G-d, nor the one who does not love his brother. For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; not as Cain, who was of the evil one, and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother's were righteous.
The first four commandments have to do with our relationship with the Almighty.
Sh'mot 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before Me.
Sh'mot 20:4-6 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the L-RD your G-d, am a jealous G-d, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
Sh'mot 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the L-RD your G-d in vain, for the L-RD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.
Sh'mot 20:8-11 "Remember the Shabbat day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Shabbat of the L-RD your G-d; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For in six days the L-RD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the L-RD blessed the Shabbat day and made it holy.
