Dark Sky is: Them Danes are at it again! Picking up where Europe and Treat
left off almost a decade ago, Dark Sky perform a well-executed collection
of songs in that classic Euro hard rock style. Every band member excels on
his instrument, including vocalist Frank Breuninger, who carries the songs
with his perfectly pitched, dynamic performance. Although his accent is
noticeable, it doesn’t distract the listener from the melodic assault
Dark Sky deliver. “Rock Me” tries too hard to be the next “Final
Countdown” and does so tastefully, yet, as was pointed out by a friend:
there can only be one “Final Countdown.” The song is satisfying on
it’s own, but Believe It gets much better once Dark Sky get to show off
their own style which they do so soon enough, with the powerful “Stay
Young.” Like many of their European counterparts, Dark Sky’s sound
is dominated by keyboard riffs and lightning fast guitar licks as
exemplified in “In the Name of God,” “Living in Paradise,” “Call
Me” and “Pray for the World.” The ballads are not weak either:
“Eternity” evokes an eerie and chilling reaction while “Jane”
charms with its simplicity. The production job is clear and very well balanced, making
the album sound even better than many recorded in the heist of the melodic
rock era. Put in layman’s terms: they don’t make albums like this very
often. Believe It is a gem amongst the many independently released albums
out there. It should be a matter of months before some label picks them
up. ----Released in 2000 by Goodlife Records | Tracklist: Rock
