Anson Lo
Originally from Vancover, Canada, Anson Lo began his vocal-music training since he was
3-year-old. He switched to the trombone at the age of 13 and went on to study music at the
Faculty of Music in St. Paul's College in Hong Kong. After studying for 3 years in St. Paul's
College, Anson went on to study his F.4 and F.5 in St. Paul's College. He is now learning trombone
with Jason Kong, principal bass trombonist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Chow Chuek-pong(former
obolist of HKPO) was once his trombone teacher.
During his studies, he had been a very active trombonist in the College. He was very delighted to be invited by
one of the most talented conductors in Hong Kong, to enter the St. Paul's Philharmonic Orchestra.
During his first year in the orchestra, he played Berlioz's Hungarian March and brought the
orchestra to a total success - the first "Championship" for the orchestra in the Hong Kong Speech and Music Festival
for the past 12 years. He was also a member of the secret brass ensemble, which also won their first "Championship"
that year. He is now currently the principal trombonist at the St. Paul's Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Paul's
Wind Philharmonia, the Secret Brass Ensemble, as well as the tenor trombonist of the St. Paul's Secret Slides Ensemble.
At the age of 14, he was invited to perform with the Hong Kong Children Symphony Orchestra
(HKCSO) as a guest principal bass trombonist. Due to his talented musicinaship, he was
chosen to represent HKCSO trombone part and was interviewed by the Hong Kong Children Fast Daily.
At the age of 15, he performed with the Southeast Asia Honour Band as the principal tenor trombonist.
And at the age of 16, he passed the audition of the Hong Kong Youth Wind Philharmonia, and was accepted
as their tenor trombonist in 2003 July.
During his studies, Anson was a recipient of the Certificate of the "comment on extra-cirrcular activities", the
Sabre Dance Scholarship for most outstanding orchestral conducting, the Raymond Fu.C.K. Scholarship for the
most talented trombone playing, and as well as the C.P. Chow Scholarship for the most explosive trombone playing
for the Bass Trombone Concerto "Unfinished" by Fulo Sherbert [2003-?].
When away from his trombone, Mr, Lo also enjoys playing football and he is a mahjong lover.
